I was at my relative's funeral today and at the dinner after, I sat by my uncle. He is my mom's half brother. They have different father's. It broke my heart to see how his condition has progressed since I saw him at a family reunion in May 2009 and in the winter in 2007. I could not understand him when he talks and he could not be still. I think it was time for his pill which he must take every 3 hours and then he does not move at all he said :( He expressed concern over which relative is going to get it next, as his Aunt (on his mother's side) had it as well, except she was much older when she was diagnosed.

Do you all know anyone with it and if so, does their relative have it as well?

A friend of mine has it, its very sad to see him the way he has become because of this horrible illness. He said that when he is well he would like have as much fun as possible so thats what we do. We all value his friendship so much so thats easy really.
  • Hi Iluvcats,

Here is part of the text about Parkinson's disease from the Mayo Clinic:
Heredity. Having one or more close relatives with Parkinson's increases the chances that you'll also develop the disease, although your risk is still less than 5 percent. Recent evidence suggests a crucial role for small contributions from many different genes that program brain architecture.

Here is the link for this particular medical topic
    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/parkin ... se/DS00295

I usually find the Mayo Clinic site very useful. I will just google the name of any medical condition followed by the words Mayo Clinic to find their page.

    I hope this helps
I wish I was as fortunate, as fortunate as me.
