Can't believe it: I interviewed Mike McCready
I'm not much of a talker here, but I just had to share my disbelief and gratitude for having been lucky enough to talk to Mike--and then write about it. (Okay, I guess this is part shameless-plug, too.)
So I've had the pleasure of writing PJ-related stuff at Seattlest.com for quite a while, and now I'm writing for Seattle Sound Magazine, too. And really, that's thanks to the music that's inspired me (and yes, become something of an obsession)--the music Pearl Jam and its members (and their friends and fellow Seattle musicians) have made.
Anyway, that resulted in me speaking with Mike yesterday about Flight to Mars, the CCFA, Crohn's, and his 1995 album with Mad Season, Above. (Yes, we chatted a bit about Pearl Jam, too.)
And what a damn nice guy Mike is. He was very gracious and thankful for the support he receives from the CCFA, his fans, and everyone who loves music. Ours was honestly a great conversation.
As a PJ fan since 16, talking with Mike was, of course, a dubious dream fulfilled. Half of our conversation is up at Sound's site now: http://www.seattlesoundmag.com/2008/05/mike-mccready-talks-flight-to-mars-crohns/
The other half is set to be in Sound's June issue.
While I'm blabbing, I also want to extend a belated but no-less heartfelt thanks to the guy in Vancouver who swapped my two row R tickets for two front-row seats... for no apparent reason, other than he just could. Whoever he was--suited, wearing an all-access pass, pacing the line before the Centre's doors opened--I'm indebted to him.
Anyway, that's another story... But damn, that show was great. (My review is on the Sound site and in May's issue, too.)
Okay, I think that's enough.

SS: I think I’ve seen that look on your face.
MM: You might see me staring up in the sky with my eyes closed. I’m not faking it. That just kind of happens. It happens a lot with Pearl Jam. There’s something the five of us create that I don’t get anywhere else on this planet. We all kind of speak to each other in a musical sense, a non-verbal sense.
This just makes me think these guys will be playing together for a long time! Love it.

How many times have we seen this? It makes you feel good to know that he and the rest of the band are still getting this level of satisfaction after all these years.
BTW.... Congrats Since'91 on the article! Good job, you asked some very good questions!!
(and you are a lucky bastard, you know.)
And yes, I am a lucky bastard. It's bizarre.
