There is a decent one on the Bowery...can't remember the name right now. Let me see if I can find it.
If you want, you can also PM me and I can give you some other info about places to stay in the city.

Edit: here is the link http://www.whitehousehotelofny.com/
Yeah...the website looks like it was made in 1999, but I have had friends stay there before they could move into their places in NYC and they had nothing bad to say about the place. I mean, it is a hostel, and not a hotel...so obviously you have to be a little more careful and a little more laid back....but anyway, worth a look.

No matter what city you need a hotel in, you are crazy not to try Priceline.com (the name your own price feature) first...

I'm gonna agree with this too.....if you could spend like $65 a night, you would be able to get a really nice hotel room in NYC on priceline for sure.

i stayed at a hampton inn on 7th or 8th. a short walk to time square. simple room with a bed and bathroom, free breakfast. Not that you need to spend a lot,if its your first time in NYC, get a basic, yet nice room. not like you will spend a lot of time in it.

stay in Secaucus NJ, take the train in straight to MSG. It'll cost you half of what staying in NYC would

Uh...have you ever used priceline in a major US city? This is a totally reasonable amount to start bidding.

$65 a night in nyc? I don't think priceline would accept that for a hostel.

    seriously
relatively clean and safe hotels can be had for around $200-$300
even if you find a room for $200, it will be more like $250 when you add all the taxes

A hotel...and you'd be surprised. I am staying in a hotel in downtown LA this week that is normally about $399 a night for $65. Have done similar bids in NYC, Philly and Toronto.

$65 might be OK for a 2 star... anything nicer you're probably looking at $100ish. But I got hotels there for $100 last time - one night was Sherton and the other night was the Hilton on Times Square. Not bad for $100 on priceline!

yeah it really depends. I never go with anything other than 4 stars on priceline and I've had luck with this, but this is just a random number I pulled out. Obviously sometimes you'll go higher or lower....

    End of threadjack!

Sorry I have used priceline and gotten great deals in big cities before too; but $65 for a hotel in NY is absurd. You're just not going to get that....unless you don't need a room where there is working plumbing that is...

    I am actually surprised
But I took a quick look on Trip advisor and there are a number of decent hotels offering rooms for under $200
I guess you could get lucky on priceline given that the hilton has rooms for $199 (pay in advance)

    Oh...

One other thing. If you are going to use priceline, go to biddingfortravel.com and search the threads in the NY Hotel board. You can figure out how much they are going for AND which hotels fall into each category. Its awesome - I would not use priceline without it.

How much are you looking to spend? Anything in Manhattan is going to cost you bucks. Check out Brooklyn, there are some very nice areas there and lodging will cost less. I like this area, have wandered it drunk/at night, never this hotel, but it got good reviews on Google and it's near the C train which should take you right up to Penn, which is where MSG is.

    I got bugs
I got bugs in my room
    Bugs in my bed
    Bugs in my ears
    Their eggs in my head
    Bugs in my pockets
    Bugs in my shoes
Bugs in the way I feel about you

    Bugs on my window
    Trying to get in
    They don't go nowhere
    Waiting, waiting...
    Bugs on my ceiling
    Crowded the floor
    Standing, sitting, kneeling...
    A few block the door

    And now the questions:
    Do I kill them?
    Become their friend?
    Do I eat them?
    Raw or well done?
    Do I trick them?
    I don't think they're that dumb
    Do I join them?
    Looks like that's the one

I got bugs on my skin
    Tickle my nausea
    I let it happen again
    They're always takin' over
I see they surround me, I see...
    See them deciding my fate
Oh, that which was once...was once up to me...
    Now it's too late

I got bugs in my room...one on one
    That's when I had a chance
    I'll just stop now
    I'll become naked
    And with the...I'll become one

    Hi there,

Check out the Gershwin, it's on 27th street between 5th & Madison, which makes it walking distance from MSG. I just pulled up $39/night for a 10-person dorm (bathroom in room, 5 bunk beds) and $49/night for a 6-person room (bathroom in room, 3 bunk beds). $5.00 for locker for your personal belongings. This is also a hotel with regular rooms $200+/night.

Haven't personally stayed here before but I hear it's big with the art community. Don't think you're going to find a better deal than this, other than a friend's couch. Maybe others can opine I feel like I've read on it on this board.
