Sorry for the really random thread but i just realised i could try my luck here.

I'm currently writing a report/designing and interface for a digital touchscreen jukebox for one of my modules at university. It's not going to actually be used but we have to still have to actually design 3 screenshots of the interface and as this will be used by the general public therefore needs to be catered for everyone. I dont know anything about colour blindess really but anyhow i need to know if anyone knows about it or has a common type and what colours i should avoid using? any other extra detail is great

I'm starting to search google for info about it but thought getting some first person experience may be best. Seems that blue is a good colour to use, some people have trouble distinguishing oranges/yellows/red/greens.

Now reading that red/green is the most common, does that means its okay to just to green or just red but bad to combine them?

I do realise it's hard to compare as we dont have 2 sets of eyes but anyone who may have studied this topic and could shed some light would be much much appreciated!!

so thanks for any help what so ever!!

    Hey There,

I am colour blind and it tends to affect me with reds and greens. But saying that from my understanding of colour blindness it affects different people in different ways. What tends to get me the most is the mix up between greens, reds and browns. As you said in your post I don't think many people are affected by Blues. That seems to be a safe colour. But hey I am no doctor so don't quote me on that just personal experience.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your project hope this matter doesn't hold you back to much.

    Cheers

I know a couple of people with the red/green colour blindness... they see both colours as sort of a khaki browny colour. My cousin has a blue/yellow one. I think that's not too common though. He sees those colours whitish (though he has no problems with greens). Don't know if this is the same for everyone.

From doing research i've found out exactly what you have said. Yeah blue/yellow is really rare, green/red is the most common. I think 99% of cases is the red/green and that effects 8% of males and 0.4% of females.

Didn't realise it was that common - 8% is quite a lot (relatively).
