No love for PJ fans in the Carolinas?

As a long time Pearl Jam fan, I am very disappointed that they are not traveling further south than Northern Virgina. I live in Raleigh, NC, and I know a lot of PJ fans who are not happy at the moment. I did not live here back in 2003 when they last played, so I don't know what took place then. Is it political? Do they think they might not make money coming down this way? If U2 could play in Raleigh, why not PJ? Sorry folks, but I'm just venting.

    Pinehurst, here
I have a theory - In 2003 they played Raleigh and Charlotte. Then in 2004 they played Asheville in the VFC tour. I'm thinking that they thought that was enough Carolina for a while. Then they did not return to the Carolinas until they played USC in June of 2008. I, too was hoping there would be something closer that Bristow (it is a 6&1/2 hour drive from here). Fortunately for me, I had a small windfall this year and am planning to go to Europe. But I would have gone to a Carolina show, as well, had there been one.
    Peace
fuck 'em if they can't take a joke

At least they've played shows there since they last played the 10th largest US city, Atlanta.

I still think they are spreading it around pretty good for the amount of shows they are doing. The midwest is getting love now, they were due. Hopefully the western Us and southwest will get some fall and the south maybe next then. It was 08 when they did multiple shows here in the south and they did ACL and are doing Jazzfest. I think its a given that we all have to travel a bit and not figure they are definitely coming to our hometowns wherever they are.

I too was a little let down after the announcement. I went to all those Carolina shows in 2003,2004 and 2008 including the hometown Asheville show and would love to see them in NC again. The crowds were great so I don't believe that to be the problem. I think like others have said... "it is time for the midwest to get some shows". I remember 1995-96 tours, so I have no problem traveling as I did to my first two shows back then. I have made peace with their style of touring. Now I hope I can score 10c tix to the Bristow date!!!!

I am perplexed as to why Atlanta hasn't gotten a PJ date (besides the excellent EV solo shows) since 2003.

  • They do try their best at times, but there's other times when you can't help but get a little frustrated when they'll play 5 or 6 shows in California and play pretty heavily in New England every time those mini-tours come around, but whole southern regions will go largely ignored. Not complaining since I'm finally getting a midwest show in May, but I understand your pain.
