I have a project to do in my Digital Media Essentials class. The topic needs to be relative to something that is innovative in multimedia. Does anybody have any suggestions? I'm drawing blanks here...

Thanks!

Haha. Sorry. I wasn't sure how much depth you needed. HTML5 will let you embed video in web pages w/out 3rd party plugins (supposedly the next flash killer, but I doubt it...) and Kaltura is a slick open source video editing app (http://corp.kaltura.com/).

Awesome, thanks! HTML5 is a software I assume?

It's actually the next version of HTML (the code that creates web pages, if you do a view source HTML is what you see). It's relevant for multimedia-ers because it's going to try to do away with currently-required 3rd party plugins like flash to play video in web pages. Instead of needing the latest version of flash player installed, videos will just play and the code will be much easier for developers. A dry topic to be sure but definitely one that is relevant (http://techreport.com/discussions.x/18403).

Okay cool, I kind of understand it now. I've been learning HTML in this class, but I'm required to take an entire class on HTML and Web Authoring before I graduate. I don't really know the significance of the flash player yet for embedding video...but it sounds like this would be more convenient. I think we're learning how to embed video in HTML in class tomorrow. 8-)
