Any good US rock magazines out there?

Criteria is that the magazine has to have a good coverage on new, unestablished artists/band, I know of A LOT of young British bands, but not many US ones, unfortunately. Also, it needs to be rooted in rock.

Does such a magazine exist?

I really like Spin magazine- they cover a lot of bands both new and old, and I always find some new, awesome bands while flipping through!

  • paste covers the indie scene well, but alot of times they cover non rock as well.

honestly, i dont think such a magazine exists. it did 10-20 years ago, but its gone now. most people used to pour over these magazines, waiting with baited breath each time the mail person came to the house, and discovering new bands via these magazines. who does that now?

the music industry, bands and even pj specifically are pretty out of touch still, with how the world of music works in 2010. the emphasis and energy is still spent courting, talking to, and doing press with magazines, which seems silly to me. it makes zero sense to me, for bands to worry about these magazines. subscribers are down across the board, for every magazine you can name.
  • Guitar World is alright occasionally. I like some of the interviews in there because it is more of a musicians magazine, so there is usually more in depth articles on the details of the creative process.

That would be me, I absolutely love it when Classic Rock arrives in the mail, and I have picked up on a lot of mainly British, but also some US acts from them. Actually, of the top 10 albums of the last decade I posted elsewhere on this site, 4 of 'em were from bands I had picked up from CR, and they were all debuts.

Anyways, thanks for the tips, I decided to give Spin a thorough chance, despite not finding something in the PJ issue, and bought the Kings Of Leon issue on ebay. Will check out Paste and Guitar World too.

If you're into heavier music, Revolver and Decibel are both excellent. Paste is good and I do still enjoy Spin.
