I wouldn't be surprised if the management had a note sent to him, because of all the angles we have covered here. 8-)

  • I met Ron Delsner in an elevator at the Pearl Jam show at MSG in '08 and drunkenly said to him:
"You've done more good on Earth than Gandhi". He fucking loved it!
yeah, not really relevant but whatever, I'm here to make jokes and get information, and there's no information.

He's one of my old bosses. That guy is really quirky.

He IS Mr Burns, in living form.

Luckily I didn't have to deal with him too much.

You were in the 8 Penn elevator?

I guess I was, I was buzzing and real excited to use the "backdoor" in. I remember Sean Avery was in the elevator too, with a bunch of Rangers jerseys. I remember him handing them to a PJ security guy, to give to the band. The guy look at them and was like "yeah, great, thanks". IT was very funny.

You know Ron Delsner did look like Mr. Burns! But he was wearing a suit that probably cost more than my parent's house.

Yup. I'm surprised he's still alive.

If you happen to be female, don't let him try to talk you into "going backstage". A couple of girls were less than agreeable with him at a Kiss show, so he had us kick them out of there. He's the 1 guy in the whole concert business we all had to keep on our toes around.

No I'm not female, hmmmm, maybe I should use an avatar? Anyway, yeah he was old as hell and looked like he could drop dead at any second. But not for nothing, he could've had me and my friends kicked out for saying shit to him like that and to his credit, he laughed it off like a regular guy.
I remember growing up, all the concert commercials would be like "Ron Delsner Presents" and it was on all the tickets. He was like the East Coast Bill Graham right? He was huge. He got everybody to come to town.
I guess now with Ticketbastard, Live Nation and the internet, you don't really need a Ron Delsner.

Ron is beyond a legend. Just wacky, and you really don't want to get on his bad side.

He (and Mitch Slater) were the first to sell their promoting business to SFX, which then bought a ton of other promoters, and then got bought out by Clear Channel, then turned into Live Nation. I think he arranged for himself to be still be pretty close to the top of that pyramid.

    who the FARQ is Koplik?
Jim Koplik, concert promoter based in Hartford CT, does shows for Hartford and some NYC.
Used to be partnered with Shelly Finkel as Piper mentioned, they were a powerful tandem on the East Coast in their heyday.

i used to work for delsener/slater enterprises, metropolitan entertainment (fierce rivals) and we ran the shows, and we did most the shows at msg. when not working for the promoters, i would work often directly for msg, and for a few artists directly.

    interesting read
the civic center used to get great shows in the 80s
Besides the city resisting rock and hip hop shows, I think it was the building of the centrum that kept shows out of springfield. Lots of bands that would have played springfield, played the centrum instead

So just go to the white hut and smile! ;)

Yea, its geographic location makes it tough. Bands either play Hartford/Mohegan, Worcester/Boston, or the Albany area. So, I dont see any change because of that. But at the same time, im very close to all those cities myself. So i really cant complain. Pearl Jam always plays the northeast so Ive been very fortunate. Seen many amazing PJ shows. Missed Springfield 91/94 & misses UMas-Amherst 91/92. I was way too young.
