More commonly known as Chernobyl, the site of the worst commercial nuclear disaster in history. A site that has been shut down since 2000, yet 3800 people still work there doing various maintenance, demolition, and other tasks such a monitoring the spent fuel.

In April 1986, operators violated procedures during a test, and also partly to blame was a faulty RBMK-1000 design. It is said 400 times more fallout occurred here then the bombing of Hiroshima.

I'm going in July for a tour.

I have to keep this brief because I'm off to work however I made this thread to discuss how Ukraine was struggling with costs and how the US and other countries have helped shut the place down and are working to safely contain the damage that still leaks from a hastily constructed shelter over the destroyed reactor 4. After I get back I will post pictures of my trip in this thread.

On a side note I may have an extra ticket for London and Berlin, if anyone is interested we can talk about it in PM. I posted here because if I had posted in the porch I would have been flooded by requests.

Anyone else interested in going on the tour? They give serious price breaks for more people.

While I appreciate a good debate, I'm using this thread for awareness of what is being done to fix the damage done, not only to the facility but to the people. Please let's not turn this into a huge argument about nuclear power. Please do not hijack my thread by doing that. Create another one. I'm asking nicely, this thread is not about that. Please respect my request.

    More to come. Thanks.

I don't know, but I remember when that place went kapuut. I was at school at the time. I wonder how many cancer cases across Western Europe were caused by that Mutha?

    Bringing to the top.

I have just checked into my hotel and I am leaving in the morning for the tour. I'll post up the story and pictures over the next few days.
