It certainly doesn't get as much rotation as I thought it was going to... :?
i'm half joking on that. but yea it's certainly not getting the rotation i expected..but i was just rockin some FON on my commute today. that one won't get old
I still think the best songs are the one that didn't get any airplay, but that whole album is just moot for me now. I couldn't even pretend to like the later ones.
I agree with you on the best songs theory. It'll be a sad day if this album gets old for me though.

I still put it on from time to time and usually say, "Okay, this is a pretty decent album..." But even then, I usually go right to "Set it Off" (Song 6) and by "Bring em Back Alive" (song 11) I'm starting to get bored with it. I agree though - it makes me a little sad.
yeah, you guys must orbit a different universe. just had a conversation with my relatives about audioslave. i was and remain a huge fan of that band. the first album is a classic. plain and simple.
Pretty much the first four Led Zeppelin albums for me. I went through that phase in high school that I think a lot of people go through at one point in their hard rock odysseys where they bow down to everything Zeppelin. After that year I pretty much came to the conclusion that I never needed to listen to those albums again (not because they're bad, just got burnt out on them.)

3) boredom
4) rediscovery
I loved Zeppelin more than anything else in high school, categorically rejected them in college, bored of them post college, and rediscovered their work (though not to the same intensity level) in the past few years. I have all the CDs, most of the vinyl, and rarely pick it up...but when I do, I am in that mood and quite happy with it.

It's really not a very good album, it sounds so dated now.
There, I said it.
you are insane. i used to listen to nothing but grunge from like 1991-1999 or so, and now i rarely listen to any grunge at all, PJ included. but to suggest Nevermind is dated is outrageous.
It's nice to know that people can still have an opinon on here!
The OP asked us to name albums that we used to love but can't stand now and the first one that came to mind is Nevermind. I turned 14 in November 91 and got hold of a copy just after Christmas that year. Even then I could tell that it wasn't the most original album musically, but saying that, it never pretended otherwise. I loved it at first because it was very easy to learn how to play the songs on guitar but lyrically there was nothing there that I could really relate to (I was a happy teenager that loved rock music - they do exist!) Side one has some very good pop songs on it (and I don't mean that in a negative way) but you would struggle to convince me that anything on side two is worth listening to. That's just my opinion but, as you stated, I am insane.
the album is the essential album for any teen. in fact, if i was to have a kid, when they hit 13, this is an album i would buy for them. kurts feelings, words, emotions and music have stood the test of time. there was a reason his life and his death was so immense, so intense. the guys is practically a saint in the eyes of many, and the amazing thing is this isnt an overstatement.
I agree that any teenager that loves alternative rock music should listen to Nevermind a few times but that doesn't mean they'll actually like it and I certainly wouldn't say that it is "essential for any teen." They'd be much better off going back to the albums that influenced Nirvana and forming their own opinions. Yes, I was sad when Kurt killed himself but there were plenty of other bands around that meant, and still mean, more to me.

wow. audioslave's first album is, and always will be, completely bad ass. i just spun it in the car the other day and it still rocks.

audioslave is very underrated in my opinion. for a band that was doomed to fail from the beginning they made quite a bit of good music.

Maybe the "can't stand" proviso was too harsh... I listened to the crap out of it when it first came out and I saw them live and they kicked ass. It really is a good album but I got bludgeoned with the radio songs and then just wore out the rest of them. Some of it still gets me pumped ("Set It Off", "Shadow on the Sun", "Exploder") but overall, as an album, it's just too run down for me.
It's like thinking it'd be awesome to work in a pizza joint, then getting sick of the stuff. It's still good, but after a while you just feel greasy...

I would say he was a 2 hit wonder: Bust A Move and Principle's Office.
Plus he wrote a bunch of other big songs, like Ton Loc's hits.
