    radiohead - "house of cards" was kindof the soundtrack to a breakup awhile back

    NY - "man needs a maid"... NIN - "the day the whole world went away"... anything by cat power, nick drake

    uhh... some angrier NIN if its an ugly breakup... i recommend "burn" :twisted:

    "Dry Your Eyes" by The Streets. Most gut-wrenching song ever. Seriously. The video is on youtube, but if you click on it, just listen to the words, and don't look at the video. The video distracts, and you really need to "see" the words in your head...

    Blind Melon- Soul One....not sure if its a break up song or if its about losing the one you love the most. It always makes me extremely sad when i listen to it but its such a great song.

    My choice is obvious but still hard to beat - PJ "Black".

    Gloomy Sunday by Billie Holiday is gut wrentching as well. The original was actually banned in Italy in the 19th century because it was so depressing and so many people were ending it all while listining to it. :shock:

    Two songs that I'm not sure if they're break up songs or not, but still very emotionally heavy is:

    Transatlantiscim (sp?) by Death Cab and
    Trust by The Cure.

    Also Vaka (a.k.a. The First Song) by Sigur Ros has always had a break up song feel, even though there's no real subject (or words) to the song. Also check out Ara Batur by them. If you're looking for depressing sad songs those two should do the trick.

    There are a million Ryan Adams songs that work... 'How Do You Keep Love Alive' is another.

    great song but I dont think its about a break up, I think its about somebody wanting you, and youre keeping them on the hook but you know youre never gonna be with them becuase they have too many issues, and it could go either way, I think its told from a perspective that could be either person.
