What would happen if it was non existent? What if the US pulled out of everywhere and came home? Do you think the world would be better off? Do you think it would be a good idea if we only intervened if we are called upon for assistance?

I mean we should still have diplomatic relationships with all countries but maybe take a sit back and see what happens approach and take care of our own first and everyone else second.
Thats a lovely accent you have. New Jersey?

The middle East would fall to pieces. India and Pakistan would be fine IMO but I dont think Israel and Palestine would ever sort themselves out. Iran would become a major nuclear power and human rights would be voilated even more than it does now. Islamic extremists would have a field day preparing a holy war against the west with the help of many countries. Oh and we can all kiss goodbye to remotely affordable fuel
  • ah so I take it the world's a much better place with the US playing world Cop... please... spare the world the self righteousness

No not all, Im a member of CND and would love to see something different but I dont believe any country can be 100% self governing and I include the US and ourselves here in Britain. Maybe I should have worded a little better

do you mean that it's not really "us" policy in the sense that it doesn't represent a large section of Americans... if so, fuck yeah, I agree... arrogant govts around the world seldom represent significant groups of their own society... take the current, god for saken, govt of Pakistan comprising feudal, greedy fuckin landlords, representing a very small section of the people ... unfortunately, in the case of superpowers, those perhaps unrepresentative govts and their policies just end up having a much greater effect on the planet...

People outside of the US really seem to enjoy the "us vs. them" mentality with regards to the latter country. Its the WHOLE WORLD, hating Americans!!!! You know, I am not an American, and personally, I'd rather NOT be grouped amongst the likes of the Iranian, North Korean, and Pakistani governments, thanks muchly. 8-) Am I an American? No way. Do I agree with everything they do? Not even close. But I don't feel that the rest of the world has magical shit that doesn't stink.

I bet you wouldn't like to be grouped amonst the Iranian, N Korean, and Pakistani govts (or do you just mean the people generally, because as far as govts go, like I said, rarely is the majority of a nation happy to be grouped as part of their own govts) and I'm sure we appear savages to the "civilised, free world" ... you could have added Syria, done the axis of evil bit, and called it a day... and the entire world does contain shit that smells bad... only difference is much of the rest of the world owns up to it.... whereas some power hungry 1st world nations (not all, because to some extent at least I exclude govts of countries like Germany and France here) pretend their shit smells like roses... its the hypocricy ... fuck that shit

Nah, I was careful to state "governments" because like yourself, I don't think its fair to lump an entire group of people into one political category. I will not dismiss your claims of hypocrisy outright, either. But the non-Western world strikes me as fairly uninterested in positive social change, a lot of the time. Correction: Governments actively work against such change. I recognize the same thing happens in the West, but less overtly. I don't know what the prevailing view on the ground in Pakistan is and I won't pretend to. A lot of stuff concerns me, though, even stuff in Europe. Media bias and portrayals play a role in our views over here, but I also feel that its highly unlikely that media portrayals are complete and utter falsehoods. There's a piece of the truth in there.

Now I do acknowledge much of what you've said, that govts around the world do often work against positive social change and like you yourself say that in the west less overtly, which is what annoys and angers many, cuz their overt policies and opinions are so polished that they get away with shit when they are literally no better; that media bias and portrayals end up quite influential, but I have to say that much mainstream media at least, often does end up being a pack of lies in significant respects, because too frequently it promotes govts' agendas which is why they have the privilege of being mainstream...
