Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus is a melancholic musical voyage through the American south commissioned by the BBC's Arena strand but fully deserving of this (limited) cinema outing. Alternative country singer Jim White serves as our guide through the truck-stops, scrapyards, mines and churches of a land in which 'stories was everything and everything was stories'.
Haunting musical numbers from Johnny Dowd, Lee Sexton and even a rockabilly mountain priest effectively conjure up the sound of a landscape where death and religion are omnipresent, and God and the Devil walk hand in hand.
