"Animal" at the 1993 MTV Mucic Awards
The anger and disdain that the lyrics suggest are never more present in the performance of the song than here.

Might have had something to do with the crowd!

I´m looking forward to BLACK from Berlin ´10 - it was amazing
Run away my son. See it all. Oh see the world.
  • Well I have to throw this out there mainly because it features dueling solos from McCready and Boom Gaspar

    Crazy Mary -- 2005 Ottawa

If you have heard a better version I would love to know because I love this song!

A couple off the top of my head...

Daughter - Milano, September 17th 2006 - Absolutely my favourite version ever of this song. I was there so I'm also a little biased. But my god its a powerful performance. The roar from the crowd when the song starts is insane, and we sang along to every single word from the get go. And if you watch the DVD you see that Ed followed our lead for the singalong tags. Monstrous version, yet to be beaten in my opinion.

In My Tree - Boston, May 17th 2010 - They brought back the original version and I think this is the best one so far. It's beautiful from start to finish.

    Unthought Known - Newark, May 18th 2010 OR Berlin, June 30th 2010.
2006: London Astoria, Lisbon I & II, Paris, Verona, Milano
    2007: Wembley, Dusseldorf, Copenhagen, Nijmegen

    2012: Manchester I & II
    2014: Leeds, Milton Keynes

So here is the deal: I don't really listen to boots other than the shows I have attended. It's just a quirk of mine, but I doubt I am alone. So off the top of my head, here are some of the memorable songs from the shows I have been to:

    Toronto/Barrie 98 - Nothingman

    Kitchener ON, 05 - Can't Keep
    London ON, 05 - Oceans
    London ON, 05 - BRY

Milan, Italy, 06 - Black (most chilling sing along I have ever heard)
Pistoia, Itala, 06 - Breath (first time hearing it, but epic version nonetheless)

Vancouver BC, 09 - No Way

Too many Favourite Even Flows to mention, one I really like, may not be the best but Adelaide 2003, mike works red mosquito into the solo!! Great stuff!!

Also if I ever Compiled a live compilation I'd finish the main set or first encore with Save You / Porch combination from Tokyo or Osaka in 2003. You hardly draw breath from Save You before they slam into Porch

Yeah, the Osaka Porch is pretty darn good. I still think it is a bit overrated (some people think it is one of the all time bests), but it's definitely sweet.

Great Post, I started a thread like this awhile back, but it died fairly quickly as most people on this board would rather bitch about something or request a song than actually talk about live Pearl Jam!

I have recently completed a 7 disc live compilation from 1992-2009 and will hopefully get around to sharing it with everyone soon. Here's a few that made the cut.

Deep - Las Vegas, NV 11-30-93
Brain of J - St. Louis, MO 10-11-00
In My Tree - Pittsburgh, PA 09-05-00
    Footsteps - Boston, MA 08-30-00
    Betterman - Vancouver, BC 05-30-03
    Down - Uniondale, NY 04-30-03
    Black - Torino, Italy 09-19-06
    Wishlist - Osaka, Japan 03-04-03

hey there, i just came across this thread and was wondering if you ever did get around to making your comp available? although i am not an expert myself and am plowing my way through a lot of boots only now, it would definitely be interesting to go through your selection! so if you feel like it, let me know about it,
    thanks,

Great list, except for Porch in my opinion. There are some really good versions of Porch since 1995, but in my mind the best evers are from 92-94.

yeah i see what u mean with the Porch argument.

put it this way if you want a short and to the point porch with a very distinct and unique Mike solo, and BETTER style of slow build-up at the start than the current versions, then you cannot go past Melbourne III 1998.

but if you want a longass crazy jam that melts your face and has you hanging from the rafters and diving into the crowd and coming out shirtless then take your pick from the 92-94 era. that bit where Dave goes nuts and they really drive it home in Atlanta 94 Porch never fails to give me shivers. Also worthy mention for Melbourne 95 Porch (& also Randalls Island? from 95?). damn they have been lucky in Melbourne for good shows

Yeah that Melbourne 3/17/95 version of Porch is nice and melodic. Good stuff. I remember playing it for a couple of Phish/Deadheads years ago and they were impressed that PJ played that style of music...they had no idea.

The Randall's Island Porch, with the great Ed speech, is 9/29/96

And yes, you have to love Atl 94 Porch (both nights actually). Easily in my top 3 Porch versions.
