That mini breakdown right after the first chorus but before the second verse, what are Ed, and in most live versions, Jeff saying there? I'm aware this is a dumb post, but hey, did you really want another one about when we're going to get a tour announcment?

    Really?

It sounds like it's backward or something.

    Where did you learn this?

you mean, for example, from 2:45 to 3:04 in the following version?

I think Jeff sings something about "... does a tree fall" . . but I'm with you, I really don't know what they sing.

    I can interpret it as;
    Eddie: 'Heavyyyy newspapers <undecipherable>" :?
Jeff: "Long as the tree falls" :?

    I know, I know . . . makes NO sense, but that's what it sounds like :)

  • Alright thanks. I have no doubt that stuff like that would differ live from the studio version. However, I do think instead of saying "Eddie", he may be saying "At ease".
  • Eddie runs in the hall
    (Oh as the trees fall)
    Eddie's pushed and I fall
    (Oh as the tree falls)
  • (Eddie's down in his home)
(Oh, the blue sky it's his home)
    (Eddie's blue sky home)
(Oh, the blue sky it's his home)

this is right, but some parts don't sound right to me, mainly just "oh, the blue sky it's his home"

whenever i perform this song (one of the most fun PJ songs to play btw) i sing...

    Eddie's up in his home
    the blue sky tree home
    Eddie's blue sky home
    The blue sky tree home

and i always imagine him in a tree house of some sort...i dunno the pentameter just doesn't fit with "it's his home"
  • The Jones Beach 2000 version I'm listening to right now sounds like this phonetically, listening closely with headphones...

    Eddie wants oh
    (Long As The Tree Fall)
    A Heady Room Service Sun
    (Where Does The Tree Fall)

I'm certain about "Long As The Tree Fall", but the other bits are probably wrong. On other versions I've heard he sings something about "newspaper" instead of "room service".

well in those days mr vedder dropped his name into songs .... so it's plausible that he's singing his own name...
