I absolutely agree. I put that album on once every couple weeks. First album hasn't been heard in years.

One of the few CDs I ever owned that I can listen to front to back without a thought of skipping anything.

I totally agree and i must add play it (((((((LOUD))))))! I first heard the riffs waiting for the start up to a RUSH concert and i was like ....who the hell is that, DAMN that's good! Someone next to me told me and i was like ....Rage of da who....? i bought it the very next day.

I think they broke up because Zach got writer's block on how to work the word "fire" into his lyrics.

I LOVE all of Rage's albums, but their S/T was definitely best.

Anyone ever listen to Zack's hardcore band Inside Out (pre-Rage)? Cool stuff actually:

I've been on a big Rage kick lately. All their albums are fucking great. I think that Renegades should not be neglected.

There are some quality covers on that record. I'm Housin' probably being the highlight for me.

Evil Empire is probably my favorite Rage record though. Revolver, Tire Me, Down Rodeo, Vietnow? Fucking awesome.

i will chime in and say this:

ive listened to the debut the most,

but Evil Empire is my favourite of theirs.

Renegades beats battle of LA for me too. Im a big hiphop fan and love hearing some of those covers...

but yeah, Tire Me, Revolver, Down Rodeo just too good.

As i got older singing along to "fuck you i wont do what you tell me....." just lost its appeal for me. dont get me wrong, fantastic debut and agree its one of the best ever.

Saw Rage in 97 when they only had two albums, and what a setlist, what a night. amazing band.

First album is one of the greatest debut albums in the last 25 years, along with Ten and Appetite for Destruction. I love Evil Empire, but I feel there's a bit of a dip after "Down Rodeo," where as the self-titled album is badass all the way through - plus self-titled has "Bullet in the Head," which is my favorite RATM song.

I also like Renegades better than Battle.

I definitely agree this has got to be one of the best debut albums in the last 30 years. My original copy is long gone and scratched so I had really only been listening to bootlegs the last several years. I was at a record shop a couple months ago and picked up a copy. I almost forgot how great this was, start to finish. My second favorite band of all time. I almost wish Mitt Romney would win the election just to piss off Zach De La Rocha so that he can write some more music with the band. The Nightwatchman is good, Audioslave was fantastic, but I really miss Rage Against the Machine.

That album is mind blowing! Their debut album deserves to be mentioned in greatest debut album talks and lists. It's like every song, 1-10, is genius. One of the finest albums I've heard so far in my life. Anyone else think so?

Yep, i agree on that too..

I first heard Killing in the Name Of in 92, at a club....was dancing to the song before and stayed on the floor....by the end I was in this state of complete rapture, tranced out, totally hyped up…..I went and asked the dj who it was, and bought the disc the next day. (man I miss the days when there were clubs playing that kind of stuff in my town!)

If I could name any band to see live, it would be Rage, hands down. Never had the chance :(
The debut is amazing….probably their best effort start to finish…but I also think it sounds the most dated of their albums.
Surprised none of the BOLA fans have mentioned Ashes in the Fall, that’s prob my fav track on that album.

Agreed. Wasn't going to say anything, but... "Why stand on a silent platform?"

Fuking great band. Just wicked. Won't bore anyone with my Rage story, but Fuk me... these guys are awesome. Evil Empire was great, but how could they ever top their first? If they did, we'd all run the risk of being those characters in Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny after Jack Black "... did not mean... to blow your mind..." That shit happens all the time.

I'm not confident they will ever put out another album, but (similar to how I feel about Tool) I'd rather they not- at least until they are ready- and have us wishing than putting out a piece of shit to satisfy a label and manager.

A truly immense record. One of those rare albums that sounds just as powerful now as when you first heard it. Great band.

Tool has been putting work into a new album and according to DC they're recording in the fall. Hopefully a step up from the last one. Not a bad album, but a lateral move for a band that's so big on moving forward. Hard to compete with masterworks like AEnema and Lateralus.

Does Rage have another album in them? Maybe, but I think they're getting up there where instead of raging they're more inclined to politely debate.

Hey! what are you trying to say here?
You'd rather bore us with your Jack Black/Tool analogy? :P :D

I'd take a mediocre new Rage album anyday....as long as they toured in support of it.
  • I was just saying we don't need anybody's minds blown here!!!

I guess I would have to concur with the notion that a piece of shit album followed by a tour would be awesome. I never thought that one through! I feel like a really shitty rocker now.

I saw them in Denver for the BOLA tour, I think it was 98. It took me ten years to see a better show by any band. That band was PJ at MSG II 2008.
