Acoustic to Electric

I've only been playing guitar for about 2 years now and strictly on acoustic, I recently purchased a beginners electric. Naturally, I felt the urge to "plug in".

The only problem now is every time I play the electric it just sounds off. The guitar is in tune and the amp sounded fine with a friends guitar, but I just can't seem to play it like I can play the acoustic.

I thought I was getting pretty good on the acoustic, and then the electric came around and just ruined it for me. Is there that much difference between playing with an acoustic and an electric?

Does anyone have any tips. Could it be the strings?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

  • if you are used to acoustic maybe try thick strings on the electric, like 11s or 12s? other than that just practice at it, i started out the opposite actually, so acoustic was tougher for me at first.

    practice, practice, practice.

over time, you'll get more comfortable. it's an entirely different beast, but you'll find your spot. just practice & eventually, your patience & practice will pay off. good luck!

  • Maybe let someone you trust look into the setup of the guitar. Especially the intonation.

This makes a HUGE difference in the guitar and playing.
