Pixies - reunion shows are more about the money now

Pixies' Black Francis has revealed that the he would like to play more reunion shows but only if "its going to earn us a fair wage".
Talking to The Quietus, the frontman explained that it "ain't about the art anymore".
"We're interested in anything that's going to earn us a fair wage," he admitted. "It's not to say it's not about art, but we made that art fucking 20 years ago. So forget the fucking goddamn art. This ain't about the art anymore. I did the arty farty part. Now it's time to talk about the money."
About to embark on a tour of Australia and New Zealand next month, Francis revealed that he'd like head back into the studio to work on new material with the group, but the prospect of it happening wasn't promising.
"Of course I would," he explained. "Do I seem like I've said anything in the past different? The more I talk about it with guys like you the less likely it is to happen."

I understand where the dude is coming from - even though the listed "" is still taken kinda out of context - why do it if you are gonna loose money? or even break even?

its a sign of the times. frank black lives in my town. i used to see him reguarly at the grocery store, i even bagged his groceries several times. i would often be stocking shelves and see him and his family buying groceries. maybe he has a huge mansion in my town, i dont know, but with the economy the way it is right now, and the fact, that no one is buying cds anymore, it makes sense artists of any trade would be hurting right now. money that used to flow in from cd sales, is no longer there. that money needs to be made in some way.
i see nothing wrong with what frank said. its what most bands right now think, and feel. bands make most of their money through touring and the sales of merch at said shows. thats just a fact.
i am big into the indie scene. that camp is divided over the commercialization of indie. is it good that its regular practice for bands now to be featured on Greys Anatomy, or that bands often are on tv commercials (of montreal doing the outback steakhouse commercial)? these things become necessary when cds are no longer the main revenue source for bands.
all bands, it seems even those who are legendary, are struggling to put food on the table, and struggling to figure out how to navigate art and commerce in this world we live in.
Me neither, at least he is honest.
Also, just to note, I saw them in Nov on the Doolittle tour and they looked like they were having a blast, and they were eating up the attention from the crowd and they looked and sounded great, so yeah, who cares if they are just doing it for the money.

Yeah it looks that way, I just wonder how long people are going to want to see them play live if they never do anything new.
Forever, probably.

He's the only one admitting it, and doing so bluntly. But there are tons of acts that are doing the same thing, just not saying it this way.
Alluded to earlier, loudQUIETloud pretty much told me this several years ago ... what's the old saying, don't meet your idols becuase you'll never be in awe of them anymore, or something like that ... that's what that movie did for me ... it was almost depressing.
