I have heard one album live. It was Avocado (09/19/06 - Torino, Italy), and it was magic.

Not neccisarily, my favorite album at the moment is Binaural but I listened to Vitology today in it's entirety and thought that it had a bevy of cuts that are great live (all PJ is great live ;) )and that it would make for a fun experience....

But I get what you mean.

  • This is going to sound fake, but this same thought occured to me recently while watching a David Gilmour DVD where he plays his entire album "On An Island". This is a very tough thing to consider. How does one pass up the raw energy and emotion of Ten? But then, in agreement with a previous statement - all PJ is awesome live. And I cannot deny the connection I have with some albums due to things going on in my life at certain times...so here goes:

    1. Avacado ("Come Back" gets me every time...and "Inside Job"...and "Gone")
    2. Binaural ("Light Years", "Nothing As It Seems", "Thin Air", "Parting Ways")

And I'd like to pose a follow up question to see other's responses. If you could ask the band to play an entire album of another artist's work live - what would it be?

My choice, would be Quadrophenia by The Who.

Not trying to be a jerk but this is basically a clever way of asking what your favorite album is.

Not necessarily . . . . my fave album is probably Vitalogy, but many of those songs on it don't come across well in concert . . . .

I would LOVE for PJ to do a tour like this . . . start the show by playing an entire album from start to finish, followed by a 2nd "regular' set . . .

Been brought up before as well . .. here; http://community.pearljam.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=119494

I still say this idea would work, and they could play ALL the albums over a 3 day festival, with ALL original members for the particular album.

Two days in a field in each location.
A main stage, and a second stage.

    Great additional acts like:
    -Neil Young & Crazy Horse
    -Soundgarden
    -QOTSA
    -Ben Harper
    -Mudhoney

Plus all former members invited back to participate in songs they wrote, as well as to feature their current bands on a second stage. And they could arrange this around any kids being born, since it's only four days total of show days. (p.s. yes this is similar to my 4/1 poster)

Plenty of people will say "It'll never happen" or "this isn't in my location" or "I don't like Dave A" ...yada, yada.

I'm asking is for a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down". Add whatever opinion you want. Lots of opinions on the board... but please include a thumbs up or down on this idea as is. :)

EDIT - I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT ALBUMS WILL BE PLAYED IN ORDER, THREE ALBUMS PER SHOW:

Three albums per night of the festival.

    NIGHT 1:
    TEN (with Krusen)
    VS (with Abbruzzese)
    Vitalogy (with Abbruzzese)

-plus rarities from that era for the encore
-Krusen, Irons and Cameon join in on additional percussion during WMA

    NIGHT 2:

    NO CODE (with Irons)
    YIELD (with Irons)
    BINAURAL (with Cameron)

-plus rarities from that era for the encore

    NIGHT 3:
    RIOT ACT (with Cameron)
    AVOCADO (with Cameron)
    BACKSPACER (with Cameron)

-plus rarities from that era for the encore

  • I just made a playlist of each album with live cuts and listened to them all. Ten is a classic album. Many classic albums are debut albums because you get the band's entire life thrown onto one document. Putting that aside, my favorite two albums played live sequentially were:

    No Code
    Avocado

Thank you for the assistance from an absolute PJ Freak who filled in my gaps who is a frequent contributor on this list (Did you listen to the GM Hunger Strike yet?). Where's "BUGS" man? Is that the one song you don't have live? It is the new holy grail I seek. Anyone with a Live "BUGS" give me a buzz...thanks.

  • Riot Act or Binaural. Probably Binaural...but maybe Riot Act...

Binaural isn't my favorite, but those songs sound sooo good live. So yeah...I guess I'll go with Binaural. (but maybe Riot Act)
