although i know the guy is still alive, what is his legacy, or his importance, in the last decade? Few people have been as ubiquitus as Jack White. Just this last decade we have his most famous musical endeavor, The White Stripes who put out 5 records in the last 10 years. Then The Raconteurs, who put out 2 records, the last one of course was a big deal because they did the In Rainbows thing, to an extent, by doing little lead up, little promotion, and just announcing it one day. Then you have Dead Weather. Then multiple songs on the Cold Mountain Soundtrack, and the main theme song from the James Bond movie, a duet with Alicia Keys. Finally he produced Loretta Lynns comeback album and didnt he win a grammy for his work on it?

So whats his legacy? What is his importance? If Radiohead are the most important band of the last 10 years, where does jack's bands and work fit in?

If nothing else, I applaud jack for coming at rock from a different direction than what was on the radio in 2000, and even in 2010. With the exception of The Black Keys, I cant say, that too many bands and musicians are doing the whole blues rock type thing. Jack popularized it.

  • not a whole lot...maybe having the work ethic that artists in the 60's and 70's had? ::shrug::

Just to add...he started his own record label, Third Man Records, and recording studio.

I think, his importance is the way he brought the blues back into rock.

Not to be biased, but I think Mike McCready also helped bring blues back into guitar with leads in the '90s. I know Stevie Ray brought it back in the '80s, but I think Mike blew hair metal out of the water with his playing on Ten.

  • watch the doc "It Might Get Loud" and you will really get an inside the brain of Jack White - he is amazing and pure...
At Bonnaroo in 08 some interviewer asked Mike McCready who he would like to most play with on stage and he said Jack White
The White Stripes "UnderBlackPoolLights" is an amazing concert dvd. How many people knew about Pearl Jam and dug them but had a live expierence with the band a concert or a bootleg or saw touring band 2000 for the first time well UnderBlackPoolLights is exactly one of those expierences

very unique sounding two piece band-not my cup of tea, but its very creative and JW can rock when he wants to

  • I thought The Dead Weather album was one of the best of 2009. Everything Jack touches turns to gold for my ears. I love his raw bluesy sound....something that is sorely missed in today's popular rock. Keep rockin' Jack!

Have never got the Radiohead thing. And believe me I've tried listening to them again and again. IMO they are terrible. Everything Jack does is great. But then again everyone has an asshole.
