To My Reflection

I lost my strut today
My I'm making peace with the earth march
Because you came
With your paper cut eyes
Stabbing my face
My perfectly imperfect face
What did you think you would see?
Replacing beauty for vanity
You imposter

It's my march
A stampede of failed flesh
As disgustingly beautiful as a victim to the surface is
So I'll stay beneath it
Filtering my shadows and bathing in my screams
I can't confuse my making with your pretty dreams
I've tried
And lost
My longing to belong
To being lost
Swallowing splinters for lust
Because I thought that I should
That I must, trust
That there's a dust
That I cannot see
Falling silently
Just like me
Bringing me here
But I'm in here
So, take me dirty
Unashamed and clear
A pilgrim, soaked in promise
Flaunting hope
I'm desire, altered grace
Not the portrait of a face, on mass
Not the girl in this glass.

there are seem really powerful lines in this poem, which I really like

the meaning is not altogether clear to me, just maybe the general feeling behind the poem
looking at yourself in the mirror - the flaws, what is real and what is not
but I get this overwhelming sense of another person, not even a reflection, but more of a partner you loathe - or something like that.

Failure, despair, defiance... and also flawed acceptance.
I am just a dreamer, but you are just a dream...
If I knew where it was I would take you there.

    Thanks!
I wrote this poem as an outlet for the girl beneath the perception that society sees, that she may be flawed...but she's ok with that and it's that which makes her perfect!!
I don't usually give the reason for my poems purely because I set the poem free to resonate with others however they choose to do so, if they choose to ;) be it one word, one line or the whole thing...once you read it...it's yours!! :D

  • There are some really beautiful and powerful lines in that poem. Can I ask how long it took you to write?
Nothing but thanks for those willing to give of their soul to a stranger. And I hate to say it but The Who are overated.

    Thankyou!
It didn't take that long to write onto paper, but it was something I had been trying to get off my chest and put into words (poetically) for a long time...to be accepted for who you are, rather than what you are, even by yourself!! It's a natural cry I think for times today, where society is stifled by greed, cloaked in it's own deception of reality, consumed by it's bullshit!!

    I agree with -Buru-

I've loathed someone I've loved and it is immensely frustrating
