uncounted: the new math of american elections

has anyone seen this i got it from the library a few days ago and finally watched it. it has some interesting points. i guess they couldn't steal it as easily as the 2000 elections. i know in my state of NC in the 04 election thousands of votes were 'accidentally' erased. in florida machines reached it's limit then started counting backwards
a county in ohio had only 2 machines for over 1300 voters and 1 of those machines was broken for a few hours. people waiting 15 hours to vote, people having their cars towed while they waited, fake fliers telling democrats because of large turnouts they would cast their votes on the 3rd when the election was on the 2nd. counties showing 0 votes for a candidate when people claim to have voted for that person. a people being turned away saying they aren't registered to vote there when they were able to vote in the primaries a few months earlier.
in pennsylvania a single county had an 80% undervote rate, meaning 8 people out of every 10 voted but made no selection. other counties had from 40-70% undervotes when historically the state had a 1-3% undervote rate. bush won pa 49% to 48%. new mexico had over 21,000 undervotes, bush won by less than 6,000 votes in that state
a government accounting office (gao) report in 05 said "numerous recent studies and reports have highlighted problems with the security and reliability of electronic voting systems....[the] concerns they raise have the potential to affect election outcomes."
it's also interesting to find sony and microsoft do far more to prevent tampering with a play station or xbox than is done for electronic voting systems.
a whistleblower that leaked documents showing that diebold committed fraud, mislead the state of california and lied about changes they made to the voting software, which caused their machines to be decertified for elections in california, ended up on felony probation and a $10,000 fine for stealing the documents proving their crimes.
80% of the electronic votes were counted by 2 companies: dieboled and es&s. both have extensive ties to the republican party, diebold's ceo had a $1,000 plate fundraiser for the ohio republican party's federal campaign fund in 03 and said he was "committed to helping ohio deliver it's electoral votes to the preisdent [bush] next year."
in Gahanna, Ohio's ward 1-B 638 people voted. Gahanna's electronic voting machines tallied 4,258 votes for bush
look at these 3 counties inflorida:
Franklin County. 77.3% of voters registered Dems. Only 15.9% registered Reps. 58.5% of the votes reported for bush
Holmes County. 72.7% of voters registered Dems. Only 21.3% registered Reps. 77% of the votes reported for bush
Calhoun County. 82.4% of voters registered Dems. Only 11.9% registered Reps. 63.4% of the votes reported for bush
diebold makes atms, atms have paper trails and can be audited, why would they make a machine to count elections and take away those 2 features??
in 2006 a professor showed how he could upload a virus in 60 seconds to a voting machine which could alter vote totals and spread to the other machines. an elected county clerk in utah, bruce funk, had it done to see how safe the machines his county were using were....6 days after he reported his findings 6 diebold lawyers fly to utah and met with state government officials who locked him out of his office the next day
a software engineer for yang enterprises says he was asked by a politician, tom feeney, who was speaker of the house at the same time he was the general counsel and chief lobbyist for yang enterprises. he claims the program was a vote flipping program. he later recreated the program showing how it was just 24 lines hidden in the code and no one would know and how to trigger it without looking like you are doing much of anything
in the 2006 elections again thousands of votes were lost, in hill county, texas every 10th vote for a democrat flipped to republican, 100,000 absentee ballots weren't counted in a county in california, in waterville, maine electronic voting machines recorded 27,000 votes cast...they only have 16,000 registered voters, in williamson, texas machines counted each vote 3 times, a voting machine in florida didn't record 18,000 votes (the republican candidate won by 368 votes) in democratic parts of sarasota

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis

Five weeks after the election, North Carolina still doesn't know who its next agriculture commissioner will be. The reason: 4,500 votes in coastal Carteret County were lost in a computer. They simply vanished.
While no one suspects foul play - it seems to be the result of an innocent mistake

the documentary mentioned a company called something like truvote, their machines printed a paper receipt to verify your vote which you place in a box, so if there is a recount or questions they can compare the paper receipts to the machine count.
it's just far too exploitable, even if someone doesn't think anyone has manipulated them eventually someone will
