The Westboro Baptist Church is coming to my school

This is ridiculous. The amount of anger coursing through me right now is just awful. I live in Long Beach, California, where we have a high population of gays and lesbians, and very mixed cultural makeup in general. This church has singled out my school to protest outside of next Friday, along with a whole "tour" of protests all around.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, they are a group of Christians whose sole aim, it seems, is to spread as much hate as possible. They are the ones who jeer at dead soldiers' funerals, they are the ones who hold up signs that say things like "God Hates your Tears", "God Hates America", and "God Hates F**s". They brainwash their children and make them hold up these signs as well. They have even protested the memorial services of children beaten to death by their peers. Their platforms are Anti-Gay and Anti-Semetic primarily, but it seems that anyone is fair game. A google search will fill you in, but I don't recommend it, it made me sick to my stomach (Their domain name is ACTUALLY, OFFICIALLY "God Hates F**s").
It shocks and appalls me that this group would fly all the way from Kansas to California to preach their hateful message in front of a public school, MY SCHOOL, where I know we have both a high Jewish and Gay population. They have also planned to protest outside of a Jewish Temple in another part of town, during their worship service. And don't try to preach to me about Constitutional Rights, I am fully aware, and just because you have a right do something doesn't necessarily mean it is a good idea.
Of course, the whole notion of this hateful group is more than enough to get my blood boiling, but it is the place in which they are choosing to do this which has me fuming. They know full well how high school students will react! They know the kids will jeer, and they know they be angry, and the smart kids will walk away, but the Church will win.
Why?
Because punches WILL be thrown. I have seen too many kids lose their temper over the most trivial things, and I know FOR A FACT that in 8 days time, some stupid kid, who thinks he knows what he's doing, will walk out there and hurt a protestor. He'll think he's solving a problem. He'll think he's sending a message. And he is sending a message. He's sending a message to those protestors, to keep doing what they are doing, to keep demonizing innocent people, and to keep hating. They WILL use any display of violence on the side of the students to fuel their own self-richeousness, to turn it into a miraculous (non-lethal) martyrdom of sorts, how although they are beaten and hated, they will prevail, like the god-fearing good people they fancy themselves to be.
Francis Bacon said: "In taking revenge, a man is but even with his enemy; but in passing it over, he is superior."
I fear that no one here will get this message, and for that I am truly scared. I hope dearly that none of my peers will stoop down to such a low level, but at the same time I fear that this is inevitable. :(

Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill, it teaches the whole people by its example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a law-breaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy. - Louis Brandeis
You got it right though, you can't sink to their level and resort with violence, as much as their "message" makes me want to light them on fire and say something tragically witty to them while doing it.
I'm an atheist but have friends who are Christian - one of whom's father is a preacher - and i know it frustrates them too because it paints such a bad image.
Maybe you could arrange a non-violent but creative way at getting back at them? :?

anyway, they came to my school last year. personally, I just don't give a shit about them. they just seek attention so giving it to them is all they want. be careful not to get too close to them though, they thrive on law suits. one of the frats here started playing really loud George Michael songs and were wearing boxers and robes dancing to it on their porch when WBC were protesting outside. it was pretty hilarious, they also had a sign that said "no tolerance for intolerance" or something like that
was that aimed at me? I never said I didn't care about those other things, I was just talking about this thing in particular. I agree, the whole activist/political is so crazy, it's very disheartening. I'm waiting patiently for the day that I'll get the chance to make a difference in the community, whether it be by voting or rallying.

(from this awesome fb group)
Leave town, go do something useful. It is free speech, regardless if you agree with it or not. Instead of complaining about what is on the radio, turn it off.
i'm no biblical scholar by any stretch, but to me it would seem that god would have no time to hate anybody. i can misconstrue the bible and make it say god hates any number of things or people, but i choose not to and i choose to believe what i believe..
by the way those pics were awesome lol..
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
I hope the recipients of their hate will realize that they are being targeted by a bunch of weak people who lead purposeless lives.
Hopefully the WBC people eventually see the light and learn to accept others.
In the mean time, lets hope some butch Jewish lesbians bash their heads-in with softball bats!
