What is everyone's favorite lyrics of all time? For me, it has to be the master Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues." Turned my head completely around when I first heard it.

Johny's in the basement
Mixing up the medicine
I'm on the pavement
Thinking about the government
The man in the trench coat
Badge out, laid off
Says he's got a bad cough
Wants to get it paid off
Look out kid
It's somethin' you did
God knows when
But you're doin' it again
You better duck down the alley way
Lookin' for a new friend
The man in the coon-skip cap
In the big pen
Wants eleven dollar bills
You only got ten.

Maggie comes fleet foot
Face full of black soot
Talkin' that the heat put
Plants in the bed but
The phone's tapped anyway
Maggie says that many say
They must bust in early May
Orders from the DA
Look out kid
Don't matter what you did
Walk on your tip toes
Don't try, 'No Doz'
Better stay away from those
That carry around a fire hose
Keep a clean nose
Watch the plain clothes
You don't need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows.

Get sick, get well
Hang around an ink well
Ring bell, hard to tell
If anything is goin' to sell
Try hard, get barred
Get back, write Braille
Get jailed, jump bail Join the army, if you failed
Look out kid
You're gonna get hit
But losers, cheaters
Six-time users
Hang around the theaters
Girl by the whirlpool
Lookin' for a new fool
Don't follow leaders
Watch the parkin' meters.

Ah get born, keep warm
Short pants, romance, learn to dance
Get dressed, get blessed
Try to be a success
Please her, please him, buy gifts
Don't steal, don't lift
Twenty years of schoolin'
And they put you on the day shift
Look out kid
They keep it all hid
Better jump down a manhole
Light yourself a candle
Don't wear sandals
Try to avoid the scandals
Don't wanna be a bum
You better chew gum
The pump don't work
'Cause the vandals took the handles.

  • the shins really did change my life

-im looking in on the good life, i might be doomed never to find-new slang

-hail to your dark skin, hiding the fact your dead again-caring is creepy

-one day ill be wondering how, i got so old just wondering how, i never got cold wearing nothing in the cold-caring is creepy

still to come, the best part, there's a numbness in your heart and its growing-a comet appears

just let go, cause theres beauty in the breakdown-frou frou's let go

we sit and we sigh, and nothing gets done, so right so clued up, we just get old-bloc party's compliments

mother i lost it all of the fear of the lord i was given, mother forget me now that the creek drank the cradle you sang to-iron and wines upward over the mountain

once when we moved away, she came to romulus for a day, her chevrolet broke down, and we prayed it would never be fixed or be found, and we touched her hair, we touched her hair, we touched her hair-sufjan stevens romulus

your caste, your class, your country sect, your name or your tribe, theres people always dying tryin to keep them alive, theres bodies decomposing in containers tonight, in abandoned buildings where, squatters made a mural of a mexican girl, with fifteen cans of spraypaint in a chemical swirl, she's standing in the ashes at the end of the world, four winds blowing through her hair-bright eyes' four winds

put your hands on the wheel, let the golden age begin, window down, feel the moonlight on your skin, the desert wind, cool your aching head, let the weight of the world drift away instead, these days I barely get by, i dont even try-beck-the golden age
