Ok, who misses the Rank Em! threads? Here's a new one. Just get out all the studio albums, and rank the artwork, packaging, etc. from best to worst. Don't forget to include Lost Dogs! Nice activity for those of us who are snowed in.

    This is tough. I judged on complete packaging (cover, inner art, layout, etc.). Ten is easily last for me... the top 3 may be too close to call... 4-8 may also depend on the day.

    It's really like a new album, in that it had mostly songs that hadn't been released before. RVM, on the other hand, was mostly a collection of songs that had already been released on other albums, maybe with an alternate version here and there. So be it - I counted yours as a 10th place vote for Lost Dogs.

    No Code is the best, but I can see Vitalogy giving it a run for it's money. Holding these records for the first time was even more special than holding your own child for the first time!!! ;)

    Yield was a real departure for them, having the first computer oriented liner notes. I think Backspacer is in the same basic ballpark as Yield, atleast for me. I'm a big fan of Backspacer art, just read the hidden images thread to see why. Plus both of these records had that initial surprise factor, due to the die-cut covers.

    Vs. ecopack was better than the jewel case but got discontinued unfortunately. Still, the common Vs. has that sweet cover photo taken by Jeff in Montana (and awesome back cover shot as well) plus it has those quintessential Pearl Jam liner notes (old typewriter/handwritten lyrics/words on loose leaf paper) we all know and love.

    I look at Binaural and Riot Act being similiar in ways. Both dark. Similiar packaging. They are both good in a bland "we are not trying to shock the world with the art this time around" kind of way.

    Avocado..... I almost appreciate the cover just because it's so shitty it's good, but using Life Wasted video images for the entire liner notes? I'm not too crazy about that but I guess the images do capture the feel of the music.

    Lost Dogs and Greatest Hits were both really well done, but they fucked up by not acknowledging Dave Abbruzesse and Jack Irons in the Greatest Hits liner notes... their names are nowhere to be found.

    Ten artwork is their worst effort, understandably enough, but the Ten Super Deluxe Edition is fan-fuckin-tastic.

    I also like how the vinyl sometimes has different cover art than the CD. ala. Ten, Vs., Riot Act, and Avocado.

    Plus Backspacer has glow-in-the-dark on the cover, I like that.

    i also dislike some of the cover photos ,so i always try not to see those...

    Got to say I love the new album's artwork, and only discovered the glow in the dark Backspacer icon because of a sleepless night.

    I had noticed a light coming from the CD shelf, but hadn't a clue what it was. One night when I couldn't sleep, I decided to re-order my albums. The smile was still on my face as dawn broke. :)

    1. Riot Act (clean, stylish and the orange/rusty/brown colorscheme looks great. The inside photo also is nice.)
    2. Binaural (clean, stylish. Looks good. The font is a bit to "futuristic" for Pearl jam though)
    3. Vitalogy (classy look, like the quality of the material too)
    4. No Code (A bit busy but like the "homemade" look with the polaroids etc)
    5. Yield (clean and nice but not as stylish as Riot Act and Binaural with their deep black)
    6. Lost Dogs (nice, alot too look at. But looks a bit cheap...)
    7. VS (Like the energy of the picture but it's nothing special)
    8. backspacer (looks cheap with bad Photoshop colouringwork. The concept is cool, the execution - not so much. Don't like the drawingstyle either. Looks better on vinyl than on the cd though)
    9. Ten (ugly colorscheme and looks dated. Even the redux has that feel, desaturation/beige tint doesn't help it)
    10. Avocado (This is the ugliest artwork I have ever seen)
