HUGE BONNAROO QUESTION.

intially seeing the lineup yesterday i was disappointed but now im not so upset. i think it will still rock especially with bands like melvins and the national along with dead weather. but what is bothering me is i heard a friend say yesterday that "he thought the people who ran bonnaroo sold out to mtv". i was wondering if anyone had any insight on this matter. this could explain some of the moves made this year.

    no no no. thats not the question, if it were then i would have posted it in the other bonnaroo thread. i am asking does mtv own bonnaroo now. and if so i can see why so of these decisions were made this year!!

    i've never heard that before...

    i'm pretty sure bonnaroo is independently owned. they broadcast some performances on fuse music channel so i don't think so.

    Bonnaroo has no association with MTV. NONE. Superfly Productions runs it, and they own the farm down in Tennessee. The move from jam bands to a wide range of music has always been to diversify the music they have there and to sell more tickets -- and they've succeeded in both. the MTV thing is a myth. Go to www.inforoo.com and you'll find a lot on their message boards about that MTV b.s.

    that rumor staerted in 05 or 06... i can't believe people still think that. i'm not even sure how it took on a life of it's own. it's like, omg mtv people were there filming (like they do every year), sound the sellout alarms.

    there may be sponsorship deals or something going on, but the bottom line is Bonnaroo is AC/Superfly's, and theirs alone.
