Does this message board represent the general population?

Just wondering y'all's thoughts on this subject. Sometimes I come here to get a broader perspective on what people are thinking outside my world, with the understanding that we are all more likely to be surrounded with like-minded individuals. But do you think this board is really a good representation of the general population?

No...the general population doesn't like Pearl Jam, which makes us unique :)

So how does the general population differ from the population on the board? And how do you know, since we all only have our limited perspectives?

If WE represented the general population, the world would be better. If WE represented the general population, there would be alot less shit wrong with the world. If WE represented the general population, pot would be legal. If WE represented the general population, we could stop world hunger. If WE represented the general population, world peace might just be attainable. If WE represented the general population, there would be fewer country music stations.
I will need to reload before I can elaborate further.

similar to what theserialthrilla wrote ... the band attracts a specific demographic - sure there are exceptions but in general terms ... that demographic doesn't necessarily reflect the larger population ...

even if we were to talk politically only - about 45% vote republican ... i would say that over 70% on this board do not vote republican ... we can go on about culture (as i would say most people here are white) - in the sense that whatever % it is ... it is greater than the country average ...

You are not paying attention - This is the WE represent the general population scenario. There are no fat-cat politicians.

i would say we do not represent the general population. generally speaking most of us are pretty intelligent and are well informed on the issues and we care about what goes on in the world. the general population is only concerned about voting fot the next american idol or voting for sarah palin because she is white ot pretty.. most of the regulars on here are critical thinkers and question what we read and hear. the general population swallows what it is told. as a whole, this forum is more porgressive that the general population and when we see injustice, such as what isreal is doing to palestine we speak up about it. the general population does not care because it might make them feel "sad" to think about such things....so no we do not represent the general population on this forum...

On a serious note on this subject, I dont feel we represent anything different to the rest of the population. Maybe we have a little more dedication to certain interests but Im no different to my friends who dont follow Pearl Jam. But I have formed my friendships around what I believe in. Alot of my buddies are like alot of you, or what comes across anyway. The main difference is that they are not really into PJ

Thanks for all the feedback. :)

I guess I should have been more clear that I meant along the lines of values, politics, perspectives, etc.

For instance (and now I'm really going to get it), when I read x% of conspiracy-theorist-type posts I wonder, "Wow, are there really that many people out there who view things this way?" So I'm wondering if certain attitudes/beliefs may be over- or under-represented here. Make sense? :?

Oh, this is one of those "I dont like a certain segment of this board so I want to hear others say they dont like them so I feel good about myself threads". I kinda liked the way it was going before.

I think about this all the time....fuck no it doesn't!

This board is about as extreme left as it gets sometimes, or just crazy with some of the stuff people say.

I go on a few message boards, a BMX site and a biker site (H/A support board) and the difference in opinions
from board to board are as different as night and day on most subjects for instance on the biker site most of you wouldn't understand the ideas of what freedom is to us and anger over some issues, not to say these things are not important to all or other opinions mean less it's just another view on life issues and freedom.
"opinions vary" so do ideas and in our own world we are always right. ;)

probably a silly question, but what is a (H/A support board)?

    i'm guessing hells angels?

i do find it funny that people think that people on this board are extreme left here ... i would say there are a few but for the most part ... most people align centre-left here ... no extreme lefty would vote for obama ...

    i wondered that too.

then again, i thought they were so badass, the last thing they would be worried about is "freedoms". i just figured they did what they wanted, when they wanted, how they wanted and where they wanted.

and the rest of the world could go to hell.
