Every time I open iChat, it closes automatically and tells me, "Connection was unexpectedly lost." No matter what I do, I can't sign on.

Figured I'd post this on here on the off chance that someone could help.

Is anybody alive out there?

Sounds like either your internet connection is flaky or there's a firewall interfering with iChat.

If it's a firewall issue, then this article might help.

It will take a lot of tweaking in your router so be prepared to spend some time if you haven't done it before. Also, I don't know if it is possible to determine whether the problem is on your end or on the end of the person you are trying to talk to so even if you make the listed changes you may see no results.

iChat is very hit-or-miss with me. On the whole I can't say it's as reliable as I'd like. I seem to have consistent success with some people, and a consistent lack of success with others.

I'm tempted to say that there could be bandwidth issues but after some experimentation with the people I have trouble using iChat with, I've found that Skype worked without a hiccup and without changing any router or computer settings, or altering the available bandwidth on either end.

So, in the long run, my suggestion is to use Skype. There's less artifacting and less of a delay.

    Hope that helps some.
