I think for me The Hangover was the best movie I saw all year although I haven't seen the Hurt Locker yet but heard many good things. I actually thought Halloween II was pretty good. I guess cause I am a big fan of Rob Zombie's films and got what he was trying to accomplish with these films. The only other film on the list I saw was Inglorious Basterds and I liked it a lot.
He who forgets will be destined to remember.

  • seen most of the big names thrown around during the golden globes/oscars, all except An Education and A Single man, which I plan on seeing once I get over this damn cold!

Anyways, looking back, I think I was most impressed with Precious-the acting was among the best of the year, Where the Wild Things Are-lived up to the hype, very poignant, very touching, powerful, 500 days of summer-Joseph Gordan Levitt, and Zooey Dechannel, and a movie that is aimed at me (the indie demographic), and Away We Go-Sam Mendes is a genius. American beauty and Rev Road were HEAVY, and this movie too was intense and powerful, but it was just right. Soundtrack fit perfectly. Many of the lines in the movie just blew my mind

The person who most deserves credit this year, really is getting squat in terms of attention: Dave Eggers who did Where the Wild Things Are and Away We Go.
  • Why the hate for saw??? It wasn't bad at all. Alot of questions were anwsered.
    Go Birds!!!!
  • "Up in the Air", "UP", Gran Torino (I saw it in January 09), 500 Days of Summer and "Adventureland". I did not see the Hurt Locker just yet.

The Worst Movie I saw was "Taking Woodstock", I saw it because I figured it would show a lot of the music from the festival, but it was quite a letdown.

I'm really surprised you put Sherlock Holmes at 6. I was really disappointed in it, I felt it just didn't work. Good cast, good sets, good special effects - but just didn't have it.

Funny you should say that...we were just discussing this tonight and I said the same thing...I thought the performances were great and they were great sets..but I also liked the twists and turns and Downeys performance alone makes it a top 10

I thought Avatar was really overrated. The visuals were awesome but the story was predictable and the characters were weak stereotypes of Sci-Fi characters.

As a big fan of the Watchmen comic, I was a little disappointed with that one too. It didn't have the same feel as the comic. If you weren't a fan of the original material it was a bit confusing.

I saw Inglourious Basterds last night and I loved it. Typical Tarantino film, but for me that's a good thing

Still waiting for District 9, Zombieland, and Star Trek from Netflix.

Yes he was very good in it, but I do like him as an actor generally, it's just a shame whatever it was in the film that didn't work for me didn't work.

    District 9 - fantastic!!
  • i haven't seen a lot of the flicks on your list, and some i never will....just not my genre of film. however, seen a few i'm in agreement with, particularly inglorious basterds.....great, great flick.....and my gawd, i forgot about the trainwreck that is the men who stare at goats. that film pissed me off. all that talent, wasted on that total pile of shite. :x up in the air was damn fucking fantastic too.

Hurt Locker was so phoney baloney. First you have a bomb guy just running around do shit. Then you have his "team" of two providing all the security. Then, and i still haven't figured it out, you have a bomb team just driving around in the desert. how does that work. then i have a guy that isn't trained as a sniper jumping on a sniper rifle and a bomb guy jumping on a spotting scope.

and a little blood causes said rifle to jam. come on.

we won't even talk about a bomb guy hijacking a ride into the city or walking back to the base. right.....

and then we have the bomb team running around in alley's chasing ghosts. ummm,...ok.

    complete joke.

Cool. I grew up in Burlington County but moved up to Somerset County area about 2 yrs ago. Maybe we'll run into each other at a show (if we haven't already).
  • yeah i thought sherlock holmes was WEAK

and also while hangover was funny i didnt think it was hysterical or anything, almost all of the recent comedies (superbad stepbrothers love you man etc) are funnier...but maybe i just waited too long and expected too much

id put district 9 and up in your list over both of those, and while i havent seen them yet i think im gonna love moon and zombieland and hurt locker.

and x-men origens on yer bad list!? im no comic book junky but i thought that movie was rad!!!

star trek was my biggest surprise not. that i thought it would be bad but because it was so good!!
and fuck me if I say somethin you dont wanna hear, fuck me!
and fuck me if you only hear what you wanna hear
fuck me...if I care...but im not leavin here

I agree...I liked Hangover but prefer those other movies too. It might have been one of those cases of it being overhyped though.

  • I don't understand the hype around The Hangover. I guess I didn't really find it that funny and kept waiting for it to be over. Inglorious Basterds however, was the shit. Brad Pitt rocked that movie front to back. Avatar was groundbreaking from a technological standpoint, but the actual story was kind of dull and preachy. I have Moon and The Hurt Locker on my Netflix queue..just waiting on them. Star Trek and District 9 were really good as well.
