  • I think Congress should be working on more important issues...

Does Congress ever sleep? Or do the aides sleep for them or do the work for them? Is it the interns? Now I'm confused. Now I know there's gotta be some Washington interns on here somewhere with the secret answer..

Now I'm really confused, per the below, does this mean they actually want to be compensated back every time their song is played on the radio? Honestly? If that is the truth I wish to never hear another musician say they do it cause they love it.. I understand you gotta make a buck for your job and profession but seriously... Maybe you need to find a better marketing manager..

Two dozen recording artists have signed a petition encouraging Congress to pass the Performance Rights Act, which would require radio stations to pay royalties to singers, in addition to the songwriters who already get paid.

It's the record company's way of getting money back. They are losing out from the decline in CD sales and all the free music on the internet, this is their new ploy. Not the artists pushing to do this, its the  record companies.

I understand that 100%... But then again the artist have to be pushing that as well their just not as out spoken about it, they let the record companies take the hit.. until now.. The article mentioned Dave Matthews and some other top artist wanting this to happen.. Whatever, it's not my relm of expertise, I don't know why I care..

  • I've got a solution to this problem...write your own songs.

I'm a pretty good singer. Should the radio stations pay me as I sing these people's song while walking down the sidewalk?

  • I was just wondering, if a band or artist writes their own song that they sing, do they receive royalty? Like for example, Eddie Vedder wrote both the lyrics and music to Just Breathe, as well as performing it. Does he alone receive the royalty, or the band?

That seems a bit OTT to me. Playing a song on the radio promotes the record, therefore more sales (hopefully) and more money for the singer/band coming from that. I'm sure the likes of Fergie or Mary J Blige would, in the long run, suffer the consequences if the radio stations decided not to play their songs and not promote new singles/albums.

It seems that this is the way to go about lost money due to illegal downloading and artists may be pissed about losing money that way. I'm not sure I agree with it.

artists make pennies on the dollar for their album sales. most of their revenues come from touring and merchandise sales.

If they did pass this, wouldn't we get 40 minutes of advertising oper hour to compensate the radio station, they already play like 25 minutes of advertising per hour as is.
