Caught this tour last night in San Diego, and it was excellent to see Dave and Gillian in a smaller venue (again, they played here last year too). Highly recommend seeing them if you like Americana/Alt-Country/Bluegrass. Dave is, for lack of a better word, a badass on the acoustic.

Dave's band includes Gillian Welch, and memebers of Old Crow Medicine show. Along with material from Dave's solo album, Gillian sang a few of her songs, and they also did a whole bunch of covers (Dead Flowers, Dear Landlord/Candyman, Queen Jane Approximately, The Weight)

Other tour dates on the west coast are:

2/4/10 Los Angeles, CA Amoeba Music - Hollywood Record Store Performance (6 pm)
2/4/10 Los Angeles, CA Troubadour
2/5/10 Santa Cruz, CA The Catalyst
2/8/10 Petaluma, CA Mystic Theatre
2/9/10 San Francisco, CA Amoeba Music In Store performance (5:30 pm)
2/9/10 San Francisco, CA The Fillmore
2/10/10 Arcata, CA John Van Duzer
2/11/10 Grants Pass, OR Rogue Theatre
2/12/10 Eugene, OR Jaqua Concert Hall at The Shedd
2/13/10 Portland, OR Music Millennium Record Store Performance (5 pm)

2/14/10 Seattle, WA Showbox at The Market
2/16/10 Olympia, WA Capital Theater
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Very cool. I'll keep an eye out for east coast dates.

I got my first Gillian Welch album last week and she is so good. I started getting into old crow medicine show a few months back too.

Get Dave's Solo Album (Friend of a Friend). Dave plays guitar on all of Gillians albums, so it's essentially the same sound, but with Dave on lead vocals, and Gillian on background.

Nice video of Dave/Gillian playing Method Acting --> Cortez the Killer, good angle to watch Dave's guitar playing.

I first caught Gillian and Dave Rawlings at a Bridge School Benefit and loved them.
The are semi-regulars at Largo, where I have seen them play with Sara and Sean Watkins of Nickel Creek, Fiona Apple, Jon Brion, Benmont Tench, Greg Leisz, Pete Thomas and John-Paul Jones.
If you get a chance to see them... go. Great blue grass music and Rawlings kicks ass on guitar.
