I never believed in napping due to the fact i always felt like groggy when i woke up. I was soo tired as i havent slept well this week so i needed to try napping again, i set my alarm for 30 mins but it went off for some reason and i just went back to sleep after settings it for another 30 mins, must have been because i was still tired....2 hours later i just woke up and feel really groggy and shit, im sure some of you know what to do, need some tips to get out of i as it is horrible!
ahh!
p.s did some reseach and you are only meant to reach stage 1 not 4/5!

well i already got up, got changed, ate and went to uni, just came back and kipped ha.
I don't think old people can nap too long one of the nicer things about getting on in life.
Here is the way it goes down
If you know you are lacking in many hours from a "long" week - yes plan a nap - no alaram or anything but in the time leading up to your nap tell you self that you are going to take a 1/2 snooze - if you do not fall asleep during that 1/2 hour then get back up and go about your day - I bet you will sleep good that night - if during the 1/2 hour you wake up after only 12 minutes regardless of how your head feels (foggy...) just get up - since there is no alarm set if you sleep for 47minutes then just get up - the key is at "first wake" to get up
now if you are just feeling a little lacking in energy for the day or are coming off only 1 night with less sleep than you would like there is only solution - set your alarm for 21 minutes - it takes the average person 4 to 6 minutes to fall asleep - this gives you 15minutes of nap time<-- that is the important part - during the first 9 minutes of the actuall sleep time "nothing" in the brain is sleeping but from the 10 minute mark down you acheive full rest sleep this is the time before dreams and the point where everything in the body is at full rest - now in the last 2 minutes before the alarm you may reach rem sleep or may not - but when the alarm goes off immediatly rise - the brain has released all the chemicals it would have released if you slept all night, but we just tricked it - your brain goes into an old ancient mode and "behaves" like you were sleeping in a cave and bear just woke u up, with out the adrenaline rush - the key is to just get up then and continue - you will feel the fog for a very short while but an hour later you will look back and think of what a great nap you just had
In short - if you are really lacking in sleep no alarm plan on 30 but rise after first wake be it 15 minutes or 45
if you need a "reset" for the day set an alarm for 21 minutes and crash out - no hitting snooze when you wake up just get aup and go -
I
rise up

Probably going to have to read this one again :P
(drinking 3rd coffee of the day)
sometimes I don't feel groggy from a nap - I think those are the times I really needed the sleep
but either of these usually works for me if I feel groggy and bad
