Hmmm.....not much faith in his own country's "free" healthcare, huh?

who knows......maybe he donated all of his resourses to his populace thus leaving him no options but to have the citizens of the worlds most evil beings to pay the bills.

wow...this is a huge deal...just huge...someone electing to have surgery somewhere else...

    sweet jesus, please help us....
  • Our (Canada's) health care system provides free care to any Canadian citizen. However, the quality of care in the U.S. is far superior as is the quality in most developed nations. It is within any Canadian citizen's rights to seek health care in the U.S. if he/she can afford it. In this case, however, it looks very bad that one of the Nation's leaders is opting for care outside of the Country.

    two things:

    1. he is having specialized heart surgery - something that only people who have money can afford
    2. canada's health care system has deteriorated ever since paul martin took over as finance minister - if you chronically underfund a system - it will always falter

the health care debate should always boil down to one simple matter and that is - do you think that all citizens of a country deserve to have standard health care covered by the gov't ... for every story of someone electing to goto the US for a procedure there are ten stories about someone who has had their life saved here in canada and who wouldn't have otherwise been afforded the same care in the US ...

Why is heart surgery only an option for those who can afford it? Shouldn't health care be a right?

yeah it is like talking about local weather to dispute climate change. It makes no sense to focus on one localized incident as proof that the whole system is failed.

But also, let's not forget that the REAL reason this keeps coming up is the cost of health care is rising at an alarming rate. If you extrapolate the costs over the next 20 years or more, it is going to be in a much worse situation that Social Security. Something has to be done. The "health care crisis" in the not-so-distant future will make the recent recession look like a small incident in comparison. But people are up in arms against reform because the Glenn Becks of the world tell them that the liberal elitists are simply trying to make this a socialist state.

Funny how the propaganda ends up making this situation so much worse. Maybe the illuminati are behind it?

Many in this tread have made uninformed statements. If a specialized surgery or other specialized health care needs are not available in Canada, the Canadian health care system pays or reimburses the costs ar at least a portion of the costs. See if your insurance company in America would do this?

Actually it does, I worked with a fellow who had hernia surgery in Toronto and there were Americans in getting the same surgery and insurance was paying for it.

The only way this looks bad is if he was in the press calling US health care evil and touting our care as superior, but if he never entered the debate then who really cares, and most likely he is paying for the procedure himself, he already donates his salary to charity.
