completeley random but these songs just played back to back on my ipod while i was shuffling my library.
edit: 4th of July is a Soundgarden tune for those that do no know.

the songs sound really similar. the intro the most, and the whole structure of each song is rather close. just a random thought. anybody agree with me on this.

also....

one time my friend was playing Temple of the Dog when i was at his place and he introduced me to the fact that a couple of the ToTD songs ahve the same music/chords as some Pearl Jam songs. obviously the connection makes sense....but can anybody point out which ToTD songs are most comparable to PJ songs.

    pretty sure footsteps in a tod song too. different words though..?
  • II think the similarities stem from the guitar playing of McCready + Stone.
    "Reach Down" has a wicked guitar jam (solo?) that smacks of early PJ: Even Flow, Deep, etc.
    That's about as specific as I can be, however.
    I just couldn't resist a post about TotD!
    Cheers.

    Footsteps and Times of Trouble are the same music.

    Tremor Christ and 4th of July...eh. Not many songs are in the league of Tremor Christ, IMO, though I am a big Soundgarden fan. I can see the similarity though, but its subtle.

    I was thinking the same thing when I was typing. It had been a while since I had seen it live, since Detroit 2000 actually, so Philly III was surreal.

    i swear the lower bowl of the spectrum was vibrating like MSG during Tremor Christ. the crowd went nuts when they started it and the intensity just escalated from that point on

    Philly 4 gets all the attention, but Philly 3 blew it away, IMO. from the get-go, Gonna See My Friend, just incredible! I've seen 50 PJ shows now, and that might have been the best.

    * Present Tense
    * Got Some
    * Do The Evolution

    Encore 1

    * Just Breathe
    * Parting Ways

    :lol: this wasnt meant to be a "which song is better" face off thread. i was just listening to both songs in succession and realized that they both sound similar in terms of song structure and general tone/progression of the song. kinda random and weird but some people know what im getting at.

    Uhm..
    Honestly, the only thing that I find in common with these two songs is the dark mood of both tracks.. But a lot of other songs have a dark mood, so.. Lyrically, musically, they are different songs, to me..
    But they both KICK ASS, 4th of july is one of my favourire SG songs

    Seems to me 4th of July is slower than Tremor Christ.
