  • Simple really - they make great songs. Sure they went mainstream but who cares?

I am utterly obsessed with Because of the Times right now. I could listen to Knocked Up all day long. It's 7 minutes, and I wish it was 14. These guys just have a great sound!

can someone tell me why they never play "Ragoo" live even though its one of their greatest songs..?

Is it like Pearl Jam and the whole "Breath" campaign thing..?

I have no idea, it's one of my favourites too, it's so damn quirky, and different sounding for them.

I'm wondering if they have new material coming out this year? They've just announced a massive show at Hyde Park in the Summer, and they're supposed to be headlining V festival - surely they can't still be promoting only by the night, that was out ages ago now.

Awesome. What I love about them is that they could easily go in loads of different directions, if they embraced their more bluesy roots I think it would kill off a lot of the Sex On Fire band wagon jumpers - might not be a bad move.

oh god yes. i knew something was wrong when my eldest came swinging through the door singing this word perfect. id been listening to KoL for years and this was her first touch of them.

personally i think it had something to do with being able to sing the word SEX at the top of your lungs in public. its a good song but it didnt deserve the attention it got.

  • I've heard some of their stuff and I like it. I've never really been too deep into their music, though. Can anyone recommend material for a KoL beginner?

Their third album is their most consistent, in my opinion, here's a taster:

You can't really go wrong with any of them though really.

These are my favourite songs in order of album release:

    Red Morning Light
    Wasted Time
    Joe's Head
    Trani
    California Waiting
    Molly's Chambers

    Slow Night, So Long
    King Of The Rodeo
    Taper Jean Girl
    The Bucket
    Four Kicks

    Knocked Up
    Charmer
    Black Thumbnail
    Fans
    Ragoo
    Camero
    Arizona

    Closer
    Crawl
Use Somebody (I still like it even though it's hideously over played!)
    Manhattan
    Notion
    Cold Desert

    woah...! a bit overrwhelming..

an easier approach for a newbie in my opinion would be the following:

    California Waiting (very radio freindly)
    Molly's Chambers
    Slow Night, So Long
    King Of The Rodeo
    The Bucket
    Ragoo
    Knocked Up
    Arizona
    Revelry
    Closer
    Use Somebody
    Be Somebody

    ridiculously great!

sounds like a Delta bluesman + Echo and the Bunnymen = KOL "closer".

My favorite from OBTN. On their O2 DVD, loved how they used Closer for their menu. Gives me chills to hear Caleb's voice echoed. :P
  • Ah Ha Shake Heartbreak is still there best album imo

    Damn skippy. :)

Regarding Ragoo.......I believe I read an interview that Matt (lead guitarist) said it was too difficult to make it sound good live. I know next to nothing about guitars, so take it for what it's worth.

I love KoL and disappointed that they are not coming to Boston this summer. They've always stopped in Boston on their previous tours (Orpheum, Agganis, Mansfield) so I don't know why they didn't this time around. I don't really want to have to go to Hartford, but I just might.
