Injured Haitians transported to US denied care?

"Disaster Politics
Haitians don't have health insurance. US States receiving severely injured Haitian patients don't like that.
You know that something is rotten in the world when States within one of its foremost nations refuse critical medical care for the victims of one of the most profound natural disasters in years. Then again, if Katrina was any indication, I suppose it should come as no surprise – and those were American citizens.
In the aftermath of the Haiti quake, the US military has flown hundreds of severely injured Haitians to the United States to be treated for everything from spinal injuries to extensive burns – critical care that is difficult to offer on the ground in Haiti. Unfortunately, given the US healthcare system, various States are now refusing to treat any more victims of the quake due to increasing medical costs given that those being evacuated from Haiti have no health insurance and the Federal government has not initiated the National Disaster Medical System.
At this point, some of you might be asking – why should the US be responsible for the care of patients? The answer? They’re not. But that doesn’t alter the fact that it’s the right thing to do, does it? You don’t go traipsing around the world invading countries to help promote the “safety and freedom” of others and then turn your back on those closest to you, especially when you were responsible for engineering the last Haitian coup. Canada was just as complicit in the orchestration of that coup, but I would hope that were our government asked to accept those in need of care that we would without hesitation or question.
It’s one thing to throw a benefit concert, it’s another thing altogether to put bullshit politics aside so that people reeling from this disaster get the proper care that they require – no matter where that care is administered.
Speaking of nations within the region, little has been reported of the efforts being made by Latin American countries – notably Cuba who has a very solid track record of sending medical personnel into disaster zones to aid those that have been hurt. As some of you might be aware, the Cuban government was one of the first to offer the US assistance after Katrina."
Every man for himself in the good old USofA I guess........

Venezuela erased Haiti's debt to them and sent planes with 'doctors, engineers, search and rescue specialists, and civil protection officers, as well as urgently needed food, water, medical supplies, and rescue equipment'
what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?
"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama
when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'
i was thinkin 'death before dishonor'
A lot of these hospitals are overloaded, they can't send someone to the US for help with out a spot open first.
The US is doing more for them then any other country....just another case were the US is evil no matter what they do.
Why doesn't Europe do more then?
Europeans are doing plenty. When it comes to accepting the injured, I guess it's just a bit more practical to fly critically injured people in less than a couple of hours to miami (for example) than to Paris. Just a thought. I understand the frustration of those americans who cannot afford healthcare and those that could have used a lot more help after katrina when they see 'foreigners' being treated for free but one must also remember the 'ties' that the US have with Haiti.
Also, I believe aid, in whatever form or shape, should not be questioned and used politically.
But we are doing the best we can.It really pisses me off when I read shit like this. Because I bet matthewgood could give a shit about the people of Hati. He just wants to make the big bad SATAN America that is look bad. It doesn't matter to some people that no matter what we do it's never enough for some people. What about other places that are close flying distance to Hati ? Like the carribean, central america, the bahamas. Or even if they had to go further LIke CANADA? Surely they could stabalize these patients until they got them to a hospital couldn't they.
No, an extra couple of hours on an aircraft for Canada or Europe is not going to happen, its just easier to make us feel guilty.
Besides, its G.W.'s fault for the earthquake.
in hindsight, to be honest, I'm not sure why I posted this. I know as well as anyone how anti-US Good is, and obviously you guys can't do it ALL. My god, if they shipped em up here they'd be in line for 3 days waiting to get treatment.
I really just wanted some opinions on this from people in the States. Sometimes Good can be fair, more often he's just a left wing nutbar.

haiti is right on your doorstep. you are the self styled greatest country on earth are you not?? if this disaster happened closer to the european union or australia then those countries would be expected to take the bulk of the load. sure if the injuries arent life thratening then share the load with other countries but dont forget it was your own government who allowed the transfer of the injured so they should have ensured the system could handle it. if they didnt then they are in neglect and should be made to feel guilty if the hospitals are now refusing to accept the haitians... not the american people but the US government. though i do have to wonder where that famous christian spirit is in alll of this.
i doubt GW knows what an earthquake is... he probably thinks its the wrath of god.
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say
If anyone in America thinks for one minute, that these Hospitals are not billing the government for the care of these Haiti patients, then your a goddamn fool. If anyone in America thinks for one minute the insurance companies are not getting reimbursed by the U.S. government for the treatment and medical services of these Haiti patients your an idiot.
For once stop with the flag waving and look at who is actually getting ready to screw you.
This is not about the US not doing enough, this is about the INSURANCE CORPORTATIONS wanting their piece of the pie. This is about the INSURANCE CORPORATIONS putting the AMERICAN public on notice that they are going to raise rates. This is about the INSURANCE CORPORATIONS putting STATE politicans on notice that they coming after Medicaid/Medicare and privatizing Social Security. This is about the Health Care Bill, not the National Disaster Medical System.
Maybe, just maybe, if we stop looking at everything through red and blue eyes we could see who is actually screwing us over in time to prevent it from happening.
...are those who've helped us.
Right 'round the corner could be bigger than ourselves.
:eh:
