  • I don't understand how a dead guy can have a whole studio album in the vault for so long. is it really never before released material? or just a bunch of remastered stuff?
    Gimli 1993
    Fargo 2003
    Winnipeg 2005

  • Hendrix recorded a ton of shit after Electric Ladyland...jams, demos, half-realized songs...there must be an entire tape vault dedicated to just him.

The title track, Valleys of Neptune, is streaming online. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

  • A lot of people are complaining that some of the tracks on this album are "phony" re-creations...vocals and guitars from one version of a song on top of the music from another. Some songs have drums and bass that were re-recorded in the 90's! How shitty is THAT? Hendrix experts are saying this new album is a total mess. But as long as people enjoy it, that's all that matters I guess.

i's funny she calls herself janie. she let his songs be used in an m&m commercial and some car commercial and many others. also, she claimed her release of woodstock was complete but it is edited and the reason she won't release much work of his that were collaborations; she doesn't want to have to pay anyone. i forgot which band member complained about her screwing him on royalties, i think it was either noel redding or buddy guy.

she also had lawyers go after people trading boots of live performances several years ago. i was in a hendrix trading group years ago and the creator was threatened to end the group or face legal consequences, no one was profiting off of it, it was strictly trading and the rules even said 2:1's weren't allowed (2 blanks for 1 show) it had to be 1:1....

i wish i still had their release of woodstock, which WAS complete, unlike the edited version pushed by janie.

like, how is woodstock 'complete' when 2 whole songs are left off!? and the only reason they are left off is because she would've had to of paid other people like Larry Lee

It's horrible. It's a stunning reminder of how mediocre Hendrix's rhythm section really were, and what a bad vocalist Hendrix was. The "unreleased" songs are under-developed. Some of the songs were re-recorded and overdubbed in the 80's and when you hear the original tracks on bootlegs you can see that this was totally unneccessary. It also seems like each song was remixed at a different studio so the album has no cohesion. It sounds like a random collection of bottom-of-the-barrell scraps, because that's what it is.

The occasional glimpse of brilliance from Hendrix's fingers is the album's only redeeming quality.

This is no "long lost album". Not even close.

Of course there are people out there who would listen to Hendrix fart, and enjoy it. But I smell a cash grab here...

Don't have the booklet in front of me, but I think it mentioned that some of the backing tracks were touched up in '87. But really, it's not that different than say... Ed's revisions on Lost Dogs.

They weren't "touched up". They were completely re-recorded. 20 years later.
