so many ed/PJ haters...
are we missing something?
don't get me wrong, PJ are my boys, but...
look at the 90s and they always have bands chosen ahead of them.
look at the 2000's and you have to wonder if anyone outside of the 'hardcore' fans have truly paid attention.
question:
is it possible we all just love a band that had a huge run and is long past being relevant?
don't get me wrong, i think WWS is their best radio song in years, but, in the end....the just didn't connect.
is PJ living off reputation? i'm not saying they are, just asking...

While they don't sell records at 90's levels the sell out arenas faster than pretty much any other band of our generation.
The only other bands that compete for live numbers are...
Dave Matthews Band and
The Rolling Stones
The have perhaps the biggest cult following since the Greatful Dead. If they aren't in the limelight, it's only because they choose not to be.
The band is tight, musically and as a group. They aren't going anywhere for a long time. They are living legends. Take it up while you can because IMO they are one of the greatest bands of our time.
relevaent to who- Are we basing this on the music industry at present if so probably- but thats because the industry is completly fabricated and crap these days. especially the american market.
Pearl Jam is still very relevent to me. every album so far has offered me somthing different and has been really good loved them.
I used to see bands like Blink 182 before they hit it big, when they became RELEVENT they started playing the same shite every album, yes it sold but was it relevent HELL NO it was just grass for the sheep. good luck to them they made a lot of money but geez it got boring reallly quick. The chilli peppers also did this. as have many.
Pearl jam however have greatly avoided it, thats why they have such a strong fan base
Intensity with integrity
rock on PJ with relevence
as far as the subject thread title goes...i'd say there's more people that give the band respect than don't...afterall you just don't survive this long in the business unless the goods are there.
perhaps the so called haters are ignorant. stranger things have happened.
For Those About To Rock !
Art changes people. People change the world.
Having their songs pumped out on a neverending conveyor belt of shite radio singles (Timbaland im looking at you) doesnt mean an "artist" is relevant or not. thats whether they are marketed or not.
PJ sells out most places it plays across the planet without promoting the gigs whatsoever.
The thousands of fans who make the time, spend the money, and keep their fingers on the pulse of what the band are doing are what makes PJ relevant.
as for being respected the band seem to have supporters and fans among the most famous and talented musicians alive...The Who, U2, REM, Cornell, etc etc
Sure, PJ changed and this is the best thing for everyone. Maybe many fans will leave them, but for me this is great, that every single album is different than the last - this is the thing which still keeps me in Their music. I don't say, that every song of Them i love - no, it's not true, but They changes make me still try to understand and go deeper in that.
And I don't want more popularity for PJ - only as much to keep Them selling Their music in the wide world (to let me buy it...:))

It seems you took some time to put this thread out there, and in those thoughts you never once realized who cares. Radio is no way to judge anything, it is an engine for new bands to gain fans, the quality of pjs records alone deservidly gives them the right to decide when their run is over.

just because pearl jam isn't whoring themselves on MTV and other mainstream channels/radio shows doesn't mean they aren't relevant. I just think that this generation (sadly, it's also my generation...) happens to enjoy pretty shitty music for the most part...
If you asked the average punter and non-fan, they'd say they're living off "Alive". That's the perception I've come across.

So what, name the last Rolling Stones song that was really relevant it was Start Me Up in 1981, and still hard to get a ticket. The point is Pearl Jam is A touring band first and the best at it today, if they wanna be the grateful dead thats awesome, Jam Bands are rare these days enjoy while
there still in there prime.
Relevant? To who?
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"
