Anyone a fan? What are some good bands? I love Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings. But beyond that, who else?

Alison Krauss. Well, I think she's bluegrass-country. Still, awesome. :)

  • The Avett Brothers. While much more than just bluegrass, their roots are based in it and that Americana style of music.

Old & In the Way(Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Peter Rowan, John Kahn, Vassar Clements, & Richard Greene) - they have 3 live albums recorded back in the mid 70's. They do an awesome blugrass version of the Rolling Stones- Wild Horses. Would highly recommend.

Yep, that's the one I was going to recommend. Love the self titled Old & In the Way disc. You can always go old school with the Stanley Brothers or Bill Monroe too.

Going to see the Dave Rawlings Machine next tuesday. Put on a great show last time with some members of Nickel Creek, not sure who (besides Gillian) is touring with him now.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

    *shudder*

hate this type of music. Mumford and Sons or Laura Marling?
  • Try Old Crow Medicine Show, Yonder Mountain String Band, and Dread Clampett. Oh and if you like the shins or modest mouse a group called Iron Horse does a great bluegrass tribute for each thats part of the Pickin' On series from Itunes.

The Avett Brothers are about as much bluegrass as Pearl Jam is heavy metal, not trying to be rude, but just from what I have heard from them I would not consider them bluegrass at all! What you see on these videos IS bluegrass! I guess the Avett Brothers are based on or have played bluegrass in the past, just the recent stuff I have heard from them I would not consider bluegrass.

BTW...The Avetts are not BG. The instrumentation is, but the style of play is not.
