Ok, this is why it is so tough to have real discussions on race.

What is the problem here? He's basically saying that it's a good sign that it's no longer about Obama being the 1st black president, it's about his words and his actions. If that is a bad thing we have no hope.

Yeah, I don't get the big deal either... talking about race is now so taboo, that we can't even make an observation that we don't notice what race someone is?

How dare you even say the word "RACE"! The correct term is "pigmentally differentiated human subcategory". ;)

I agree ... This stuff has been retarded for a long time now and it seems to be getting even worse. I think people who truly ARE racially sensitive (in a healthy sense) are the ones who can actually have a calm discussion about the issue without pointing fingers and evoking history that happened well over a century previous. If you are SO "racially sensitive" that you cannot perceive the nuances in a very complex topic, then you're part of the problem.

Oh Pleaseee! If that’s what he was saying ...WHY didn’t he say that.

Well, there's always the "read between the lines" implication that most of the time Chris Matthews apparently sees Obama as the "black president" and not as the "president." Otherwise, why would he be admitting that he only just forgot he was black?

Then again, this is coming from someone who once said Obama gave him a tingling feeling moving up his leg - maybe he just likes the taste of his own feet?
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

  • I don't think he is a racist, but at the same I don't know what the hell he meant by saying what he said, but I do know this much, If it had been someone on Fox that had said what Mathews did. There would be people lined up outside Fox's studios with pitchforks demandidng that person be fired.

True enough...and their complete overreaction and jumping to OUTRAGE...would have been equally idiotic.

  • I had to open this thread to make fun of the apostrophe you added to "Matthews."

Are you one of those folks who prefers to add an apostrophe and an S to make a word plural, instead of simply adding a S?

I know nothing about Chris Matthews, so I will leave.

Thank You. (Oops! I had to edit, I made a typo.)
