Kinda OT: Can anyone recommend a good vinyl record player?

I'm ready to take the vinyl plunge. Unfortunately this means going back and buying all the PJ vinyls for crazy amounts of money, but it'll be worth it (from what I hear). So what are some good players in terms of cost and playback quality, and where's a good place to get one?

BTW if anyone has a reasonably priced Into The Wild vinyl for sale (opened or unopened) I'm all ears!

Technics....look on ebay, you can get great deals there.

  • How about a good pre-amp for the record player?

It said "Life is nothing but a dream."
I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.

  • Crosley makes some nice vintage style record players that you can online or different megamart retailers.

    Hope that helps...

  • Stanton. At your local Guitar Center. Love mine!
  • Get a direct drive, not a belt drive. Better quality.

I use a Teac that my wife got me a few years back. Its one of those retro looking things. Its not the greatest but it works. I also have it plugged into my receiver to give it a little more power. This works for now until I can get some more cash for a really good one. I think she paid like $80 from Target or something.

It looks like this one below

This nostalgic record player comes with a host of thoroughly modern features and full range stereophonic sound. It has a semi automatic, belt driven turntable that spins 33s, 45s or 78s, and can be used alone or in conjunction with your own stereo system components.

    Teac SL-A100R Main Features:

    Belt Drive Full Size Turntable

    3-speed (33/45/78 RPM)

    Rotary Analog AM/FM Stereo Tuner

    Rotary Volume Control with On/Off
Thats a lovely accent you have. New Jersey?

  • I just recently got a Technics... Everyone on here recommended a Rega P1 or a Pro-ject, but they were way out of my price range... I'm very happy with the Technics I got!

look around at your local thrift stores, I have a nice pioneer A-450 that came with a brand new 5x shure stylus for 10 bucks at goodwill. I bought my brother an old (80s) technics for 20, that was top of the line, put 30 dollars into it and it sound great, amazon has decent pre amps pretty cheap.

    I'll ditto that.

My dad has some really rare vinyl that you can't find on CD anywhere. It was nice being able to plus the turntable into the USB port on my computer and ripping some of that to mp3. Obviously the vinyl sounds better, but I don't have a record player in my car...
Hello, I love you. Won't you tell me your name?

the sony direct drive systems (PS-series) are a good starter table. i believe they are from the 80's/90's and can be had for a really decent price.

if you are just going to do some casual spinning, i would recommend something along the lines of the sony. wont cost you a arm and a leg like the techinics or rega tables. if you want to take full advantage of vinyl, you should be prepaired to pay a lot of money for a quiality table (like the ones listed above), stylus, tone arm, receiver and speakers.
