Curious. Does anyone use? I am trying the free version of Mozy. Anyone use mozy? I have many digital photos, it'd be horrendous if my HD crashed with no solid back up. Any info that can be provided would be great. I am using a mac.

well how much memory are all your photos?

I mean for your Desktop/Laptop HDD to crash AND your external HDD to crash is very very slim. If you dont have a ridiculous amount then you can just burn data DVDs... or alternatively yeah try something like photobucket. I have never heard of that company before because i have never needed to back up photos online but photobucket seems to be a very popular choice, there is also another company but i forgot the name of it lol.
  • Well I have a complete backup made with DriveImage XML on an external HDD. DI XML saves the whole HDD to another one and in case of a crash you can just put it back on. I used this as I had to send my notebook to the support and didn't want to send the data along. Works perfectly.

Thanks for the info. I am looking for online solutions as I have lots of photos from many vacations that I don't want to take a chance on loosing even if the odds seem slim that something could happen.

  • If you wanna be really sure, you should try using a RAID system at home. This is not quite cheap but it works pretty good. Online solutions seem too good to be true, but I work at a data center as network administrator and I know how often data gets lost - even though I'm in one of Germany's best and biggest data centers. Don't trust those online solutions too much. I only trust what I have made myself and got at home. BTW: Free solutions will pretty soon reach the point, where you need something better, more storage...... The long-range cheaper way will be buying some HDDs and a RAID controller.
