Whenever i talk of Pearl jam gigs here in the UK, most people i know ask "are they still around? or who?"

I try to explain that they are huge and usually play shows with average 20,000 capacity and always sold out.

BUT, made me curious, when was the last time Pearl Jam played a show that did not sell out? I'm talking about their own shows of course, not festivals. I can't remember any in my time of attending shows.

What about the Philly shows? I think they took a while to sell out, if at all.

This topic has the potential to get depressing  anyway...

A couple of their Australian Stadium shows last November didn't sell out, but came close enough to it.

Their third Sydney show in 2006 (no, not the infamous 'it's like a church in here' show, the one after it) only had approx 12, 000 people in a 20, 000 seat arena, but rumour has it this show still counts as a full house because after they placed curtains over the 8, 000 or so unsold seats in the upper mezzanine, they managed to sell the last of the lower mezzanine seats, hours before the show started.

Also, their concert in Canberra in 1995 didn't sell out, and sure enough, they haven't played Australia's capital since.

seems like they play the best shows when its not sold out... but if you ask me most due to the totally stupid tour schedules by the promoters

Grand Rapids 06 stellar show, probably best in 2006 at all, but stuck between Chicago and Cleveland/Detroit mid week was no chance to sell out - entire back was empty

Duesseldorf and Munich 07 - Munich was probably not even half full in the seated areas, Duesseldorf moved to smaller venue. Both shows at same weekend or before the 2 major festivals in Germany

Philly I 09 - upper deck not even sold, back empty as well. Whoever decided to add this mid week show after the
    other shows should get fired...

The back of that Detroit show wasn't meant to seat people, it was for their light show. They had black cloth covering the entire back. However, I still don't think it sold out.

If Seattle 2 from 2009 was sold-out I'd be shocked. Lots o' empty.

And the suckers missed an incredible set.
