Why didn't Chris Cornell just do this...?

Since the Soundgarden reunion was announced I've been on a bit of an SG kick recently. I've played my way from "Screaming Life" to "Down On The Upside" and also Audioslave, Hater and CC's solo stuff.

I never thought I'd say it, but I actually quite like "Scream" now. If you listen to it as a complete piece and not as separate songs it's an interesting experiment. However, after seeing this:

I really wish he'd recorded the whole album acoustically. The songs are good enough and he's still got an awesome voice (and it would have prevented dozens of anti-Chris Cornell posts!) John Frusiante released an acoustic version of "Shadows Collide With People" and that's even better than the original. Even though I doubt it would ever happen, I wish CC would do the same with "Scream".

  • The whole Scream project was just really rushed, and they aimed it at a completely different market. There are some fairly good songs and ideas on there, but as a whole it just doesn't work, it tries far too hard.
  • I quite like scream too. I don't think any songs go past the 'pretty good' label but it's a different effort. It wasnt mainstream enough for Timbaland's crowd and it was very far removed from Cornell's usual work to alienate his fan base.

An acoustic album would be amazing from this guy. There are a bunch of You tube clips from an acoustic show he did in an LA hotel recently. Check them out if you haven't done so.

Yeah, I've seen quite a few of the YouTube clips and that's also partly what got me thinking about this. The "Unplugged In Sweden" bootleg is great too. If it had been officially released it would probably be my favourite CC album

I would definitely like to hear rock mixes of the album (or acoustic).

I know that he released a rock mix of one of the songs on iTunes a while back...sounded pretty good, actually.

I really, really wish he would release a live performance like the one mentioned in LA. Have you heard his acoustic cover of The Beatles' Day in the Life????? Nothing short of amazing:

Looks like it will be Matt. I signed up to the mailing list and we got an e-mail on Friday that was signed off Ben, Chris Kim and Matt ;)
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

i dunno, i heard a supposed cornell-approved rock mix of one of the scream songs somewhere, and i thought it sucked even more. extremely bland vh1-style rock, y'know...
