Pearl Jam Vs. The Rest

I know it in my heart to be true-they are the best.
There is not a “bad” Pearl Jam song. There are some you like more than others, others way more than others, others are your favorite, some tracks you skip, sometimes the skippers get played during the course of an album listening session and “Sometimes I know, sometimes I rise. Sometimes I fall, sometimes I don't .Sometimes I cringe, sometimes I live. Sometimes I walk, sometimes I kneel. Sometimes I speak of nothing at all. Sometimes I reach to myself, dear god…”
Regardless of your Pearl Jam top 5 or Pearl Jam bottom 5 their “worst” song is still way better than most bands good ones. Music is the greatest communicating art form. You can play a song and it can change your mood for hours. They exemplify this notion. “See the path cut by the moon for you to walk on. See the waves on distant shores awaiting your arrival…” The lyrics do stand on their own but the music is beyond this world. Right now I can not even summon the words to articulate my thoughts. The songs are all like onions or cake, layers and layers. We think about them, decipher them and just when we think we understand them completely you hear the same song again for the millionth time and BANG! – it changes or catches you just the right way and suddenly you can not get enough of it. Before you are aware the song you always skipped on an album creeps into your top 10 favorite list and your number nine moved to number ten because this new old jam is now a solid number nine. “They were upside down…”
Pearl Jam is the soundtrack of our lives. We know that they make each song for each of us individually, unconditionally and with love. “Take the reigns,.. Steer us towards the clear. I know it's already been sung,... Can't be said enough. Love is all you need... All you need is love... Love... Love,... Love!”
Are you with me?
Pearl Jam is not my favorite just because I like the music so much – I like the music so much because it is the BEST.

Yes but like Jeremy ( I went a decade with out listening too it) it will come back around for you. You can mark my words - one day on the radio it will get played years from now, perhaps this will be after a few more albums come out or even after the band is done (alot can happen in 10 years) it will come on the air and you will smile, put your top down and drive faster... all the while remebering that we had this conversation

Jeremy is one of the greatest hard rock songs ever. We have never had a conversation where I could have possibly said otherwise.

Anyway, it's not because it's a single or whatever. In fact, I heard it today on the radio and while I am happy they PJ is getting radio play (they deserve it), I still switched the station because it's a horrible song, in my humble opinion.

  • Don't be so blinded by your fanboism. There are a dozen bad Pearl Jam songs I can think of.

Thankfully, the good outweigh the bad by a landslide.
  • I can't think of a BAD Zeppelin song - not really - ones I don't care for - and with Pearl Jam I just don't think there is a BAD song on any of the albums - yes I skip Habit and Pilate almost everytime and my wife HATES Lukin but even she as a casual fan will not admitt that it is a BAD song - This Band is incapable of sucking

    fanbalism is a great word!?!?!?!

Does that mean we are all Pearl Jam fanballist - kinda like eternal posimist

Certainly a terrible video, at the very least.

    Yikes.
  • I was saying to g/f just yesterday that when I am at a Pearl Jam show I am euphorically happy -- and I don't drink or do any kind of drugs before anyone goes there  -- and no other band does that for me. That is why I pay hundreds of dollars to be raped by fucking TicketMaster, TicketsNow or whomever to see the band as many times as possible and still believe it is worth every penny I spend. I always buy the boot from the show and listen to them for years after the show to recapture that feeling. There's nothing else like it in musicdom for me. I made three of the 4 Philly shows and I'm REALLY looking forward to those boots and the DVD (as well as hearing what I missed on the Friday night show).
    a fool not a fucking god ....
  • My faves are Zeppelin & Pearl Jam. I don't think PJ can surpass Zep, but their body of work continues to grow, while Zep's wasn't all that large, so we'll see.

Why am I talking about Zep? Well, perhaps the one song I might skip on shuffle is on now... Carouselambra. I still didn't skip it.

PJ songs: Some of the lesser Lost Dogs I can do without, but those didn't make albums anyway. Some of the other candidates - Evacuation, Help Help, Speed of Sound - I still listen. They might even be growing on me a little bit!

Other favorite bands: Beatles, Radiohead, Pink Floyd all have plenty of skippable songs.

we have very similar taste amigo - I just got Pulse live on CD a few weeks ago... I was listening to it the other day while doing dishes, i kept pausing and turning my minds eye out while it was playing that the water got cold and I had to abandon the dishes because it was to distracting listening to the nuances of each jam

I'm a huge fan of that album. My only complaint is that the CD version doesn't have One of These Days, which is on the VCR/DVD version. It's a great performance too! I think we're officially not talking about Pearl Jam anymore, and will get booted out of the Porch, so that is all.
