Singing Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd was Will Ferrell

Ben Harper on Slide Guitar, Conan on Guitar, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top) on Guitar, Beck on guitar, Max Weinberg on drums, and the rest of Conans band. A fitting way to close the show if you ask me.

All in front of a giant American flag.
He who forgets will be destined to remember.

    I thought that was hilarious.
Believe me, when I was growin up, I thought the worst thing you could turn out to be was normal, So I say freaks in the most complementary way. Here's a song by a fellow freak - E.V
  • Great quote right before the end, truly heartfelt, and damn honest and straight true.

"To all the people watching, I can never thank you enough for your kindness to me and I’ll think about it for the rest of my life. All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism — it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen. As proof, let’s make an amazing thing happen right now"

It was a brilliant ending for sure. Conan will land on his feet, and I can't wait to laugh again. I like Dave to, but even if Jay hadn't fucked Conan over, I probably never would have watched him again anyways, but now I can assure you, Pearl Jam could play a ten-song set on the show, and I won't watch it.
words seem so out of place.

    yes, very classy. i agree!
  • It took me a few minutes to determine whether or not that was the real Billy Gibbons. I thought they may had hired an impersonator based on the fact that Ferrell was in a character costume. But then when I saw a clear shot of Beck and Ben Harper I came to the conclusion it was the real Gibbons.

Agreed, but I don't think Conan would succumb to Fox's bullshit.

I think it would be pretty cool if he went on Comedy Central, before or after Stewart/Colbert. Of course, he probably wouldn't make nearly as much money doing so, which is why it's highly unlikely, but he would be able to get away with basically anything he wants!

Agreed and I think that Comedy Central would be awesome, although it won't happen.

There was a brief period where Comedy Central was airing Late Night reruns.

That final all-star jam is definitely one of the best musical moments of Tonight show history, of course not forgetting Neil Young's Long May You Run. Watching Conan do that guitar solo was a thrill.

no other type of finale could be more appropriate than that.

i've never really listened to the lyrics before (i mean come on; the best part about that song is just shouting "FREEBIRD!" before it's played) but they were so meaningful to conan's situation.

conan could not have been more professional about this entire conflict. what he said at the end about nbc took a lot of balls to say, and i loved what he said about cynicism.

    rock on, conan.
Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

I don't think money is a problem for Conan anymore lol
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

will ferrall ruined it trying to steal the spotlight, give it to conan...and turn his guitar up louder...the rest was good though
  • We've been through some things together
With trunks of memories still to come
We found things to do in stormy weather
    Long may you run.
    Long may you run.
    Long may you run.
    Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
    Long may you run.
Well, it was back in Blind River in 1962
When I last saw you alive
But we missed that shift on the long decline
    Long may you run.
    Long may you run.
    Long may you run.
    Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
    Long may you run.
Maybe The Beach Boys have got you now
With those waves singing Caroline No
Rollin' down that empty ocean road
Gettin' to the surf on time.
    Long may you run.
    Long may you run.
    Although these changes have come
With your chrome heart shining in the sun
    Long may you run.
