I think we all agree Mike wasn't highlighted "evenly" over the course of this record - how ever there are some stunning shinning moments

    I thought the little solo in the middle of Amongst the Waves is good. However, I thought he wasn't utilized to his potential on this album.

    Go back and listen to No Code and Yield and tell me how many times Mike rips a solo. Most of the very very few solos on those records are Stone's anyway.

    Everyone thinks Mike takes a back seat on Backspacer and that just isn't true.

    I enjoy the little licks on Force of Nature, but a little more Mike would've made that song legendary!

    The solo in Amongst the Waves is nice.

    that may be true but if you want face melting, Immortality and Red Mosquito do it for me! nothing on BS comes close to that.

    Mike may not be highlighted, however when i watch the philly shows on youtube, he seem to be enjoying himself more than ever. Partically during the backspacer songs, i think they just love having new songs to play. which is why i think pearl jams in general does so many covers, even they must get bored of there own hits. but thats just my perception, i could be wrong.

    mike needed to take a break after avocado maybe? his solo on "inside job" is enough to hold me over for another decade or so i think. not the hardest solo ever written or anything like that but it fits that song perfectly and really knocks that song up a couple notches.

    i dont really need to hear solos on every song, but it is nice sometimes.

    but i do miss the extended jams like on Porch or Present Tense. i miss them very much.

    Awesome! I would love to correct everyone's spelling here, but that would mean I could never misspell anything myself. That said, some people are brutal with the homonyms (would/wood, their/there/they're, your/you're, etc.). Come on! I'm not going to single any one person out though. I probably spelled homonyms wrong anyway.

    I think Matt was getting doughnuts while Brendan played drums on Just Breathe.
