Should I renew my 10Club membership?

Its that time of year again and I'm thinking of letting my membership run out. I've realized that, living in a non-major market, I rarely get the chance of seeing them within driving distance of my house (Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Buffalo, Columbus). Since I joined in '04 they've come twice - in '06 - and I took a vacation another time to see them elsewhere. I've realized that I've spent roughly $200 to get better seats twice and with what looks to be me having to travel to see them from here on out, I just don't think its worth it to pay $100 each time I see them to sit a little bit closer.

Are the seats *that* much worse getting them through Live Nation rather than my number (338) if only going to be seeing them every 3-4 years?

well you do want to have your seniority when they do eventually come back to your neck of the woods right? And you do want to try for 10c seats if you decide to travel for a show when they are not playing nearby right? Its well worth the $20 to have the option of trying for 10c tix whenever you choose IMHO.
If spending $20 a year is a financial issue for you, then you already know the answer. And yes, as time passes, the 10c seats are much better than what you can usually get through TM or LN

  • It's up to you buddy. I always feel like I get my money's worth. I think just the chance to win the lottery is worth the $20 for me.

    Yes... through 2050.

$20... 3 beers at a bar? You can wipe your ass with $20 these days... we're lucky it's not $50 or something. You can't even get a fucking pizza with one topping and tip for $20 anymore.
  • Your membership is current. Your membership will expire on Nov 1, 2014

Its not so much the actual cost - that's nothing really - its more a cost/benefit. I'm paying $60-$80 every time I see them for slightly better seats. Just not sure if that's worth it. I'm leaning toward just renewing it this year and if they don't come around here this year to not renew it after that...

  • Try living in San Francisco...I've been in the 10c since '95 or so and have gotten 10c seats TWICE in all of that time. In '96, they didn't play here. In '98, they didn't play here. In 2000, I got great seats. In 2003, I got really good seats. In 2006, all three shows were GA and they didn't even bother to corden off a section near the stage for 10c folks. All of the other tours this decade have passed us by entirely. Last year they played a festival, no 10c seats. Four shows in L.A., and nothing here. So I've paid all that 10c money for four good seats. What a deal!

Now, that said, at least the Bay Area has gotten a lot of good Bridge shows, plus the shows opening for the Stones in '97, but no 10c advantages for those. And I at least got to see an EV solo show in Berkeley, though I was shut out of 10c seats for that so had to pay through the nose on Stubhub.

So talk to me about wasting money on 10c!

At least I like the Xmas singles...

with your member number, you are better off with TM or LiveNation tickets. If thats the only reason you are in the 10C, then I'd say not to renew

just don't forget that you are in a non-major market. so when they do come through your town. your membership is going to go a long way compared to a Seattle or Boston show.

Absolutely not. You look to be in the same area as me and your number is better.

Yeah, mine is up this month.

Every year I think "Hmmm...they never play around here and I've gotten better seats via TM than I have the 10c..."

But then I wouldn't be able to post on the boards! So basically I'm paying $20 to post on here because I get no benefit from the actual band!

Screw it...I'd miss this place too much!

Unless I take off of work, skip class and buy a hotel... that 8 hour drive isn't exactly "my area".

My original num was in the 60,000 back in the early days of living in Cali. I moved to the eastcoast and let my membership expire without renewing. My logic was that they were playing GA shows so it wasn't a big deal st the time. Now I'd give both my left and right balls for my old num. My buddy who had a similar num to mine is always in the first 3 rows of every show he goes to. That's where I'd be if I didn't let my num run out. Keep it bro. Never let it go. I did get lucky in philli and won the lottery for the 1st night. But it all comes down to u. It's ur membership so it's up to u. See u at the shows
  • I have one the worst numbers on here so yes quite...though in reality it won't help me a bit. I will say every time I have gone to Perl Jam ( in 08 and 09) via TM or LN it has ended up costing me at least $80-$90 after they surcharge/delivery fee/ convince fee. So your cost to benefit isn't as bad cause you get some songs , a mag, and the ability to write stuff on this forum.

I joined up first time after the tour in 2000 which I couldn't go to in the hope we would get another tour in 2002-3 and I let it expire which I regret. I did sign up again for another year in 05 but missed the chance to attend the 06 tour because I didn't renew and couldn't afford ebay prices. I won't be so stupid now that my family are older and I can actually go to this years shows. I've waited too long to see PJ and have missed them in their prime but at least I get to see the vintage version. I'd renew for the reason because I don't want to be kicking myself again and the forums are the best :D
