My wife and I caught the NJ show. Outstanding!!!, Eddie was neither Rightous or Brooding, but in a very good mood. Hard Sun at the end was just one of those moments, well one of those moments you hope to experience when you buy the tickets. There was a video on youtube, but after like 3 months it got removed, the guy who took it told me, once something is removed, your not allowed to post it again. I understand that Ed may not want to stand out from the rest of the band. But he does, besides everybody else in the band has solo projects.

I'd like to be able to reexperience it, from the comfort of my living room. Also everybody should get a chance to enjoy it. Even a boot from that show would be treasured.

I will agree with one thing here. It does kind of suck for all of us who didn't get to see a solo show. The closest Ed ever came to me was 6 hours away, and I know some people traveled longer than that to catch a show, but some of us just don't have the time or money to do that. And so it does kind of suck that any video or audio of the tour gets removed. As you said, "everybody should get a chance to enjoy it," and that would be really nice if that could become a reality at some point.
words seem so out of place.

Ed said they were taping at the DC shows in 08, and I've been wondering what exactly they taped for and told told us they were taping if they weren't going to release anything. After he toured again in 09 I thought maybe we'd see a touring man 08-09 dvd but who knows at this point.

The NJ show would be nice, but I would really like the first Atlanta show. I think it was June 23rd.

any official anything from the EV solo tours would be nice
but I dont think it will ever happen because the ITW were on a movie soundtrack and gordon whats his name sued Ed over his version of hard sun

highly doubt Ed could release a commercial version of the shows including those songs
hope I am wrong about all that

Any musician can legally re-record another musician's music, without their permission, as long as the song has been commercially released. The original musician makes money off of it...

Eg: Creed could cover Evenflow any day.

I know mechanical/digital license-and that goes to the heart of the hard sun issue, but I dont think Ed would release anything with the litigation allegedly pending.
As to the ITW songs-it would not surprise me if the studio limited release of any ITW recordings until two years after the release of the soundtrack-or something similar-it would explain why the 10c was so diligent about deleting threads and you tube videos

but thats all just masturbatory speculation ;)

Good point. Though I think they could have released a live show after the first tour, which I think was well before litigation. ....but similar speculation, minus lubrication.

    OUCH!

But there is still the movie studio issue. That has to have something to do with the strict enforcement.

Anyway, I loved the NJPAC show and enjoy hearing it quite often. ;)

AH! Slightly different take on the movie studio issue -- that THEY might not want a live release to maximize sales of the Original Soundtrack version. Hmmm!

I had thought about the movie angle, that perhaps they "own" the songs or something, royalties would accrue more to them?

As posted elsewhere -- doesn't EV have to pay royalties for SELLING recorded copies of another musicians songs? What with these shows covering Dylan, Bruce, JT, Cat, Floyd along with Daniel, Society-dude and Hard Sun-dude... Soo many folks to grease?

And then wouldn't he hafta pay royalties to uh, Pearl Jam?

I mean, how much does he even own his solo shows?!??!!?

And of course, not like I know ANYTHING about that kinda stuff --- just pure speculation goodness!

I cant see ed giving up the rights to his original songs, but I can see him granting exclusive use for a specific time period-but hey you never know these days-in his mind the songs probably belong to the movie-I can hear him saying "they are part of this fantastic piece of visual art that sean penn created. I was was lucky to be a part of it."

heck now Im just talking out of my elbow.:lol:

But isn't ITW on J Records or something? If so, they make less than a CD that is self released. Since 90% of the copies that will be bought probably already have been, why not release Ed Solo where Monkeywrench Radio makes 100%?

Shit now you have me doing research.
I need to check my copy-but I cant seem to locate it. Could be just a distribution deal with J. Records a la Pearl Jam. A quick look tells me that popular artists usually negotiate a flat fee for providing the soundtrack and that the publishing rights are negotiated on a case by case basis, but generally, the employer owns the copyright.

anyone have their copy lying around who can verify the copyright?

i work for Sony Music and they bought and consumed J records which was a division of RCA records , which was a division of BMG, which is just all Sony now. However considering Pearl Jam finished there contract with Sony prior to the release of Backspacer which they put out on there own independent label, Monkey Wrench i think. How ever Sony still has a say and some kind of ownership of all music released on there label. From what i understand the grand plan is to release a deluxe edition of all Pearl jam albums , like they did with TEN, to maximize profits, But i do just run the Messenger Center, this is just rumors i hear in the elevator. i wasn't aware that ITW was also a Sony product, however in his solo tours Eddie does cover some Pearl jam songs, so Sony would have a say in distribution, one way or the other. All this legal stuff just makes me sad and gives me a headache.
