Ok so I have this, but mine is not black nor is it really purple...it's a very dark purple....so how to I figure out what's it worth? I looked at expresson beans but like I said its kinda in between.

It isn't uncommon for a printer to run out of ink while printing and then substitute a similar color in order to finish the total number they had planned to print and use up all the rest of the materials. They probably ran out of purple ink and ended up using some black to finish up.

Based on the information available I think that the black whale versions are probably limited to less than 10 to 15 percent of the total print run.

-There were no claims of black whales sold at the show.
-The majority of people that ordered from 10 Club got purple whales
-Tenclub sold this poster on 9/11/06 and it took between 3 to 4 days to get them in the mail.
-Between 9/20/06 and today (10/25) EB has recorded 8 sales on ebay, of which only 1 was black

I have one hanging on the wall, and though I think it's black, my framer swore it was purple. Apparently the coloring of the sailor is different as well as the whale, so there might be a way to tell be comparing the guy and not the whale.

EDIT

Yep, just checked and apparently pink was used in the guy's flesh tone on the purple whale version, but not the black whale version. Examining the guy in the boat should tell you which one you have.

Could swear the one I got from 10club was light purple & the one I got signed & numbered from Ames was dark purple, not black.

I already have it framed and hangin on my wall. I love this poster!!! I will def look at the guy and not the whale when I get home. Thanks for the help!!

I've got the black one hanging with thumb tacks. I'm sure half of this board would slap me, but as a college student I certainly can't afford to frame them all. Luckily, I don't plan on selling it.

OK so I checked and it looks like his flesh tone is a peachish/pinkish base color and then some redish dots, like pointalism....and the whale def had purple in it, but it is very dark. Thanks for the help!!
